99  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / European operators missing out on €2.2bn OTT profit opportunity on: September 24, 2014, 07:20:33 PM
Cambridge, UK, 24th September 2014 – Western European operators are potentially missing out on more than €2bn in gross profits according to independent research commissioned by AsiaInfo – China’s largest telecommunications software and services company.

Undertaken by respected mobile communications consultancy firm Northstream, the research highlights that an open platform approach to collaborating with the so-¬called Over-¬The-¬Top (OTT) community could unlock significant revenues as well as slash related operational costs.

Northstream’s investigation concentrated on 60 operators across 16 Western European countries. The research identified that the current individual, essentially manual, approach to OTT collaboration normally undertaken on a case-¬by-¬case basis can be expected to generate a modest gross profit of around €160m over the next three years.

However, an approach based on deploying an open collaboration platform, providing OTT partners with direct but controlled access to the operator’s IT assets coupled with the possibility to leverage end-¬user context, would not only substantially reduce operating costs per partnership, it would also enable operators to add more partners, deliver more value and increase revenues from each collaboration. The net result is an eye-¬catching 15-¬fold increase in gross profits to €2.2bn across the 16 countries.

Commenting on the research findings, AsiaInfo’s VP of product marketing Dr Andy Tiller said: “This is a huge wake-¬up call. We know from earlier research that 90 per cent of operators recognise the need to partner with the OTT community, but many are still sceptical about the business case – particularly the costs involved and the revenue return. What this new research from Northstream shows is that deploying an open collaboration platform can unlock a net revenue stream that is far bigger and more profitable than many had imagined.”

Northstream’s research identified three key drivers to profitability: a collaboration platform enables operators to grow the numbers of partners, increase the variety of partnership scenarios, and boost subscriber take-¬up of partner-¬based offers.

“It is quite simple,” said Northstream’s CEO, Bengt Nordström. “Our modelling shows that the potential lies in the operators’ ability to achieve the economies of scale required and quickly add and manage partnerships across those three growth criteria. As long as a manual or case-¬by-¬case model is adopted costs remain high and growth remains limited.

“However, it is not just about the automation,” he added. “It is also about speed of introduction and the appeal of partner-based offers to end subscribers, as well as the commercial attractiveness of the partnership to the OTT community. Those operators that adopt an open platform approach will attract more partners and deliver faster returns and greater profits to both parties.”

The potential shown through the study suggests the need for a mind set adjustment from operators, away from purely marketing relationships towards innovative direct revenue--generating partnerships enabled by open collaboration platforms.

102  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Publishing Technology launches new interface and enhanced features for ingentaco on: September 23, 2014, 08:21:47 PM
Oxford, UK, 23rd September 2014 - Publishing Technology, the leading provider of content services to the publishing industry, has announced a new interface for its ingentaconnect platform, the world’s largest resource for scholarly publications.

The first part of the multi-phased relaunch of ingentaconnect.com sees the site’s user experience enhanced, access to information and navigation dramatically improved across the board, and a new-look, user-friendly homepage redesigned to highlight featured publications, new and most viewed titles on the platform as well as a Twitter feed containing up-to-the-minute news and service updates.

One of the major new developments on the site is the addition of Connect Compilations. This innovative feature empowers publishers to bring together and repackage different types of previously published content, from books to journals and special reports to data, enabling the creation of bespoke virtual publications tailored to specific audiences.

Further developments and functionality enhancements will be launched over the next six months as Publishing Technology continues to drive forward its plan to strengthen and improve the platform’s offering to publishers, librarians and end users.

Michael Cairns, CEO at Publishing Technology, stated: “With 255 publishers currently hosting 9,607 publications and just shy of five million articles on the site, ingentaconnect really is the home of scholarly research online. This is why it is vitally important that we continually ensure that the service we provide is the best it can be.”

He continued: “We are extremely committed to building and sustaining a platform that is future-proof, structurally strong, feature-rich and easy to use, as well as one that helps our publisher partners to add value and deliver content to their audiences in more inventive ways. We look forward to rolling out these changes over the coming months and seeing how they are received.”

At the same time, Publishing Technology is pleased to welcome nine new publishers to ingentaconnect, including six transitioning their content across from MetaPress: University of South Carolina, Scrivener Publishing, Springer Publishing Company, Society for American Archaeology, Association for Career and Technical Education Research, Henry Stewart Publications, Local Population Studies Society, Association for Architectural Editors and Institut Universitaire de Gériatrie.

Launched in 1999, ingentaconnect is the most comprehensive collection of academic and professional content online. Accessible in more than 25,000 registered institutions around the world, ingentaconnect delivers over 300,000 downloads every month from nearly 10,000 hosted journals, books, reports and statistics documents via subscription or pay-per-view. With nearly 1.4 million visits and over 3.2 million page views per month, ingentaconnect publishers benefit from an established user-base and over 50 linking and distribution partners.

Most clients responded that they would recommend the language services provider “without reservation”, leading to an impressive score of 8.5 out of 10 on the recommendation measure. This is well above the average for service providers, and also beats the results of CLS’s first anonymous survey back in 2011. Some 86% of the surveyed clients in Germany, Austria, the Benelux countries and Switzerland told the team led by business economist and marketing expert Prof. Marco Schmäh that they were satisfied with CLS Communication. As in 2011, they rated their language partner’s image, service offering and order processing relative to its competitors’.

42% of clients said that CLS Communication had been recommended to them. This recommendation rate is almost twice as high as in 2011, when it was 23%. When asked about why they hold the company in such high esteem, they cited the outstanding service quality, describing CLS as “reliable”, “trustworthy”, “flexible” and “a true partner”.
Reasons given for the strong client–provider cooperation included friendly and consistent points of contact at CLS and swift, on-time order execution. 105  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Eseye partner M-KOPA makes a difference to 100,000 homes in East Africa. on: September 22, 2014, 08:37:50 PM
Guildford , UK, 22nd September 2014 – Eseye’s long term customer and partner M-KOPA announced on Thursday last week that it has reached a ground-breaking achievement of connecting 100,000 homes in East Africa to light and power using solar technology and M2M connectivity.

This achievement has been realised in less than 2 years and marks an important milestone for the company supplying solar powered light and electricity to populations outside the grid.

The company estimates that each of the solar powered homes will save $750 over the next 4 years resulting in a combined saving of $75M on Kerosene; money, which we agree, is better spent on other priorities - more food on the table, more money for school books and tuition, more cash to invest in businesses.

As part of the development team right from the onset, Eseye has been instrumental in the architecture and design of the M2M design behind this novel business that enhances lives. As a global M2M solutions provider, manages all connectivity to the existing 100,000 devices.

“We are proud to have been part of the team that has developed this marvellous technology to enable and empower people giving them opportunities to achieve, learn, and save” says Paul Marshall, COO at Eseye.

M-KOPA is a customer that perfectly encapsulates Eseye's end-to-end approach delivering expertise, devices and connectivity that work the world over with the same ubiquitous experience regardless of location, carrier and function.

In conjunction with the announcement last week, M-KOPA released a video showing how the M-KOPA solution has made a significant difference to the lives of the people using it. Watch the M-KOPA Video here: bit.ly/m-kopa100k.

107  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Pharma eReport delivers V5-compliant solution to help MAHs meet December 31st XE on: September 15, 2014, 04:00:14 PM
Cambridge, UK, 15th September 2014 – Pharma eReport, a software and services company that delivers a comprehensive XEVMPD compliance solution for pharmaceutical regulatory professionals, today announces that its Centrality software is fully compliant with the latest XEVMPD schema changes mandated by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Centrality offers Marketing Authorisation Holders a straightforward mechanism to import existing product data, update it to the new V5 schema and submit it to the EMA. The software has been successfully managing the re-submission process for customers since the V5 update came into force on 16th June 2014. Prospective users can register for a free online demonstration now at http://www.pharmereport.com.

On January 31st 2014, the EMA substantially changed the requirements for the product data that pharmaceutical companies must submit to the Eudravigilance Medicinal Product Dictionary, or XEVMPD. All Marketing Authorisation Holders (MAHs) must have updated their product records in accordance with the EMA’s “V5” guidance by December 31st 2014. The mandatory changes are being made to address a range of issues on the road to the implementation of ISO IDMP (Identification of Medicinal Products) in 2016, including new information required to support the assignment of pharmacovigilance fees, improvements to the quality of submitted data, and modification of controlled vocabularies.

Pharma eReport’s quality-assured, V5-compliant Centrality software is being used today by major global pharmaceutical companies to manage ongoing XEVMPD compliance. Built directly from the EMA schema to ensure syntactically correct EudraVigilance Product Report Message (EVPRM) messages by construction, Centrality also incorporates built-in business rules, so that the entire process – from data entry through to submission to the EMA gateway – is error-free, continuously cross-checked and seamlessly compliant. Pharma eReport’s solution offers extensive data import capabilities and transparently interfaces with customers’ existing data systems. With the additional option of a full range of specialist support and consulting services, Pharma eReport enables customers to outsource the entire XEVMPD compliance process.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Marco Rubinstein, CEO of Pharma eReport said: "Our Centrality software is being embraced by major pharmaceutical companies as a technically superior, cost-effective and proven solution to achieving and maintaining XEVMPD compliance.” He added: “Since our solution has been engineered from the ground up to be both agile and highly robust, we have been able to very quickly adapt our system to the requirements of the V5 update. Whether MAHs are currently using the EV web tool, a different software solution, or even have yet to submit any data to the EMA, we provide a complete, easy-to-implement and fully tested solution for Article 57 compliance that minimises the administrative burden and keeps pace with evolving specifications.”

The Centrality software is offered via a transparent pricing model and with fully flexible deployment options. The Centrality platform is available as a secure, on-demand cloud-based application (Software-as-a-service) accessed via a standard web browser, or it can be installed as a standalone software application. For customers who wish to have all their data in-house, Centrality can be installed on a company intranet, so that the data is held on-site and authorised users can access it securely via the company system. The Centrality software solution is completely independent – no other software needs to be installed – and offers full support for both Windows and Linux.

On August 27, 2014, the software manufacturer invited translators for a technology round table in Karlsruhe, Germany. The workshop focused specifically on the optimization of the translator-oriented Across Personal Edition.

The day was marked by a very open and constructive work atmosphere in which many ideas evolved for the further development of the software. For the Across team members from the development department, the hands-on knowledge of the experienced translators and the prioritization of the optimizations discussed were especially valuable with a view to making the Across Personal Edition even more user-oriented in the future. Now, the main task is to integrate the collected input in the further planning. The invited participants were especially appreciative of the possibility to voice their criticism and present their suggestions by way of direct dialog:

"As a long-standing user of various CAT tools, I greatly welcome the Across initiative to discuss desired (as well as some undesirable) functions with the end users of the tools. Actually, all vendors should take an equal interest in the needs of freelancers; after all, they are the ones who work with the tools every day. Unfortunately, this dialog has not yet become a fixed element of our tool landscape. In my capacity as BDÜ special adviser for language data processing and CAT tools, I feel that all vendors should organize similar events and pay more attention to what freelancers have to say in connection with the tool development. Now Across has demonstrated the courage to take this step and consult with the end users of its software. Hopefully, the suggestions will be accommodated in future versions of the tool", says Jerzy Czopik, owner of the Technical Translation Service TransDocu®, Dortmund, Germany.

Andreas Rodemann (AR-Übersetzungen) also has a positive view of the open dialog with Across: "With this event, Across has made a giant stride toward those who work with the software every day. Now we are curious to see how and when Across will implement our suggestions, and we are looking forward to working even more effectively."
In view of the great success that the round table represented for Across, it is likely that such intensive workshops will be held again. Across Systems will provide information on the further steps with respect to concrete results in due time.

110  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / AsiaInfo to showcase innovative BSS at Telecoms World Middle East, Dubai on: September 09, 2014, 03:40:23 PM
Beijing, China, and Cambridge, UK, 9th September 2014 – AsiaInfo, the leading BSS supplier to some of the world’s largest operators, is bringing its breakthrough BSS innovations to the Telecoms World Middle East event in Dubai, from 29-30 September 2014.

For 20 years, AsiaInfo has been helping to transform networks in Asia, creating more revenue for operators by unlocking the value of subscriber information. In Dubai, AsiaInfo will show how operators can release significantly more value from their networks by showcasing award-winning products from its Veris™ BSS Suite.

In addition, Dr Andy Tiller, AsiaInfo’s VP of Corporate Product Marketing, will be presenting on how to optimize and monetize network resources (11.30 am, 30th September).

On the AsiaInfo stand, visitors can see the Veris Convergent Context-awareness Center (C3) in action. Veris C3 is a Big Data appliance from AsiaInfo that enables operators to make relevant and personalized marketing offers and timely policy changes to precisely targeted audiences at the ideal moment for each end user.

Veris C3 can help operators compensate declining revenues from traditional services and maximize the opportunity from Over-The-Top (OTT) players by unlocking the value of subscriber information. With Veris C3, operators can up-sell and cross-sell more effectively to their customers and generate new revenues by adding value to OTT services.

Also on show will be AsiaInfo’s Real-time Self-Service (RTSS) solution, which enables operators to give end-users a high level of control over their pre/postpaid services. With RTSS, end-users can perform self-care operations, such as checking their account balance or buying new packages; transform and gift resources (minutes, messages, data) in real-time, turbo boost the speed of apps temporarily and even negotiate a personalized tariff. AsiaInfo’s RTSS solution won the Mobile Pricing Innovation category in the Telecoms.com 2014 Awards.

111  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / New deal for Publishing Technology in Beijing on: August 27, 2014, 05:04:04 PM
Beijing, China, 27th August 2014 – One of China’s most prestigious trade and academic publishers, Zhonghua Book Company, has today announced that it will partner with Publishing Technology China to build a new pub2web powered website.

As part of a government-backed project, the deal will see the creation of a new digital publishing platform and management system, designed to accommodate Zhonghua Book Company’s complete collection of ancient Chinese works, dating back to the publisher’s inception in 1912.

The globally accessible site will be heavily customised in order to carry vertically displayed ancient Chinese text, traditionally viewed as a significant challenge in the digital world, and it will contain supplementary notes and information provided by subject-matter experts to accompany the published works.

With its three thousand year heritage specialising in the humanities sector and the publication of ancient Chinese texts, Zhonghua Book Company becomes the latest high profile name in the Chinese publishing industry to implement Publishing Technology’s global content solutions, as the company expands its presence in the Chinese market.

Jun Xu, President of Zhonghua Book Company said, “This collection will provide our readers with a multi-dimensional knowledge system of ancient Chinese texts, academic works and knowledge references. The new site will present this collection of works, now enhanced with additional knowledge from traditional Chinese culture, in one place, and each text will be closely connected with others within the site, revolutionising the way these texts have previously been presented. This new resource will become an invaluable asset for academic and professional readers and is a significant step toward driving forward our digital publishing goals and changing the way we publish our works in the future.”

Publishing Technology CEO, Michael Cairns, stated: “It is a privilege and honour to be signing this agreement with Zhonghua Book Company at the Beijing International Book Fair, one that marks a significant milestone in our rapidly expanding operations in China. Over the past two years we have successfully implemented advance and pub2web platforms for major Chinese publishers, witnessed a huge rise in the popularity of our CNP eReading platform and grown the Chinese side of our business substantially – we now have 60 members of staff based at our offices in Beijing, compared to just a handful three years ago. We’ve always said that, with the right offering, China is an exciting market to be a part of and this contract is further proof that validates this statement.”

Michael Cairns and Jun Xu will participate in a special signing ceremony at the Beijing International Book Fair on 27 August 2014. The Publishing Technology CEO also gave a speech at the Beijing International Book Fair Forum on 26 August 2014 at 2.30pm.

112  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / High Growth to ‘Hyper Growth' for BriefYourMarket.com on: August 26, 2014, 06:00:38 PM
Derby, UK, 26th August 2014 – The multi-channel marketing business, which specialises in intelligent, preference based newsletters and emails, outgrew its previous offices late last year, moving into new premises on the same site as it sought to accommodate its expanding workforce.

20 employees have been taken on in the last quarter, taking the total to 52, with a further 6 positions currently in recruitment and 6 more filled positions awaiting starting with the company. More are being sought all the time as the firm keeps up with demand from customers, and it is this relentless growth which has led to it being recognised as a “Hyper Growth” company.

High growth is usually defined as a 20 per cent rise in turnover or headcount for three consecutive years – “Hyper Growth” businesses are GrowthAccelerator clients that have achieved this level of growth in just one year.

Rick Palmer, director and co-founder at BriefYourMarket.com says:

“Everyone in the team is very excited to have been identified as one of these high performing, Hyper Growth companies. We are all committed to maintaining this growth which is planned and strategic and we are not resting on our laurels.

“As such, we are delighted to be working with GrowthAccelerator who are helping us to manage our rapid growth. We have ambitious plans to grow further and will be making announcements in the coming weeks regarding key facets of that growth strategy. Right now, we are on the lookout for anyone who thinks they have the talent and ambition to join our team and help us to go onto to new levels of success.”

Capitalising on the recovering economy, Hyper Growth businesses have blazed a trail of exceptional growth over the past year.

GrowthAccelerator identified just 34 Hyper Growth businesses from a representative sample of 500 of its clients, BriefYourMarket.com being one of them. Together these businesses generated £41.9 million in GVA and created 571 jobs. Growth Observatory, the research arm of GrowthAccelerator, undertook in-depth research among 25 of these companies – including psychological profiling of their leaders – to unlock the secret formula for their rapid ascent.

The findings are interpreted by a panel of leading business growth experts from across industry and academia in a report, The Hyper Growth Insights Study.

Stephen Peacock, Director of Operations at GrowthAccelerator commented:

“This study seeks to shed light on the attitude and approach of a select group of leaders from exceptionally high performing businesses. By looking at the nature, characteristics and approach of the leaders behind these businesses, we believe this report makes a valuable contribution to the high growth debate, raising implications for policy and action to stimulate and support future business growth.”
