183  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Premiere for PDF Days Europe on: March 24, 2014, 06:10:57 PM
Berlin, Germany, 24th March 2014 – Since its beginnings in 1993, PDF technology has become a gigantic ecosystem with thousands of different providers. Originally a proprietary file format, today PDF is a critical part of global IT infrastructure used in almost every sector and industry imaginable. On the 16th and 17th of June 2014, the PDF Association is dedicating another event entirely to the format: PDF Days Europe. The premiere event will be held in Cologne. At this star-studded conference, users and developers will find answers to their questions and ideas for optimal usage of the PDF format. Each different PDF standard will be considered and its potential applications discussed. The agenda for the first day, Educational Day, will include developer- and product-independent presentations on PDF-related themes, such as PDF/A, PDF/UA, PDF/X, PDF/VT, PDF/E and PDF itself. Day two, Solution Day, is dedicated to practical applications for PDF solutions. Cutting-edge questions will be answered, such as “Where is PDF going?” “How can organizations best leverage PDF’s subset standards for archival, accessibility, engineering and print?” “How reliable is PDF?” and “What will PDF 2.0 look like?”

“PDF today is an open ISO standard with a wide range of potential applications. This, along with the wide range of PDF standards, can sometimes make it difficult to maintain an overview of the situation. In PDF Days Europe, we are offering a roadmap”, said Olaf Drümmer, chairman of the PDF Association, explaining the Association’s concerns.

The conference programme includes a wide range of subjects, meaning that IT managers, decision makers, ECM strategists, developers and PDF experts will be sure to get their money’s worth. At the beginning of the event, Frank Easton, system developer at HUK Coburg, will present his keynote speech, titled “PDF or not PDF”, describing his experiences integrating the PDF format into business processes. In the presentation that follows, participants will get a compact overview of all current PDF standards in just 45 minutes. After this, three parallel tracks will be available: Basics, Advanced, and a slot with German-speaking presentations. An evening event together, including the opportunity to watch the football world cup match between Germany and Portugal, will close out the first day of the programme.

Solution Day will start with a compact series of presentations describing new and innovative tools from a range of providers. Participants will be able to choose between a presentation slot containing customer project reports and best practices for users and developers, a slot containing instructions and workshops on the subject of PDF/UA and PDF/A, or they can visit the iText Summit taking place on the same day.

187  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Senza Fili releases whitepaper revealing true cost of manpower in developing sma on: March 13, 2014, 05:52:27 PM
Cambridge, UK, 13th March 2014 – CCS (Cambridge Communication Systems Limited), developer of the world’s first self-organising small cell microwave backhaul system for mobile networks, today announces the publication of a new whitepaper exploring the backhaul solutions that can support organic small cell network growth. Written by Senza Fili Consulting, the research offers an in-depth examination of the potential total cost of ownership to mobile network operators – due to the inevitable densification of mobile infrastructure – and a detailed overview of some of the backhaul solutions currently existing.

The whitepaper is freely available for download here: A backhaul solution for organic small-cell growth.

The whitepaper demonstrates the potential savings available to operators using the model of a small cell network that grows organically over a 5-year period to meet the increased capacity needed for the operators' overall network. It addresses an expansion in backhaul to support an initial deployment of 100 small cells that grows to 5110 small cells in year 5, and the likely costs incurred as the result of continuous network planning and implementation.

In the report, the cost savings achieved by deploying a self-organising, multipoint-to-multipoint (MP2MP) backhaul system – 42 per cent lower CAPEX and 34 per cent lower OPEX – are due to reduced manual labour costs associated with planning, installation and topology optimisation of small cell networks. Unlike point-to-point (P2P) systems, which would require repeated re-planning as the small cell network grows, a fully self-organizing MP2MP system such as that from CCS, enables simple organic growth and a rapid response for network operators to expand capacity when and where demand is highest.

“Small cells are going to be essential assets for operators needing to increase the capacity density of their mobile networks. However if this growth is to be part of a well-paced evolution, the costs of reshaping and optimising ever-expanding networks will be substantial,” says report author, Monica Paolini, President and Founder of Senza Fili Consulting. “This TCO analysis shows the advantages of self-organized systems in keeping the cost and complexity down in expanding small-cell networks.”

CEO of CCS Ltd, Steve Greaves, commented: “We are delighted by the results of this important research conducted by Senza Fili Consulting. The outcome is a great vote of confidence for CCS and vindicates our proposition for a self-organising, self-optimising backhaul network.”

188  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Aquasentry acquires civil infrastructure company for greater environmental busin on: March 13, 2014, 04:28:29 PM
Yorkshire, UK, 13th March 2014 – Environmental pollution control company Aquasentry has made a significant acquisition to create a new division.

As part of its strategy for growth and development of services, the business based in Birstall, West Yorkshire, has bought the Huddersfield branch of Total Environmental Services (TES) for an undisclosed sum. Now called Aquasentry Environmental Solutions, the new division will provide below ground civil infrastructure work to enable a more comprehensive service to customers.

Aquasentry manufactures, supplies and installs leading pollution prevention and spill control technologies as well as providing ongoing product servicing and training to help businesses and the public sector meet environmental guidelines and responsibilities.

Managing director Rob Staines, who bought Aquasentry three years ago, said the latest acquisition demonstrated the company’s commitment to becoming the UK leader in its field.

“We see our growth being with large businesses and organisations, and we identified that our ability to provide in-house civil work would be key to us gaining a greater market share throughout the UK,” he said.

“We were already subcontracting to TES and saw the potential of bringing it under the Aquasentry brand and utilising the expertise of the highly-knowledgeable engineers who have the ability to help us achieve our ambitions. We can now provide all the civil infrastructure work in addition to manufacturing the monitoring products and providing training and support.

“The acquisition will no doubt help us to widen and strengthen our customer base as well as providing even better levels of customer care.”

The deal, which was carried out by Gordons Solicitors in Leeds, transferred all 10 jobs to Aquasentry, nearly doubling the size of the company, which now employs a total of 24. The 28-year-old business has seen steady growth under the ownership of Rob Staines, which he attributes to focusing on quality of products and service, and helping customers to navigate a myriad legislation while remaining commercially effective.

He said: “We are operating in a rapidly developing market due to transformations in technology and the sophisticated environmental legislation landscape.

“The acquisition of TES puts us in a stronger position to assist our customers to implement systems that make environmental and commercial sense while providing a seamless service.”

Aquasentry, based at Gelderd Road, Birstall, works for customers throughout the UK in sectors that include construction, fuel manufacture and distribution, chemicals, utilities, and brewing.

189  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / AsiaInfo’s game-changing Real-time Self Service solution proves an Award winner on: February 25, 2014, 05:30:11 PM
BEIJING/SANTA CLARA, Calif; Cambridge, UK; 25th February 2014:  AsiaInfo-Linkage, Inc., Asia’s leading supplier of BSS systems, has won the ‘Mobile Pricing Innovation’ category in The 2014 Telecoms.com Industry Awards, which recognize innovation and excellence in the global communications industry. The award, for AsiaInfo’s Real-time Self Service (RTSS) solution, was presented in Barcelona to Dr Andy Tiller, vice president of product marketing for AsiaInfo, by Mike Hibberd, Editorial Director at Telecoms.com.

Operators with AsiaInfo’s RTSS solution are empowered to give their customers a high degree of control over their mobile voice and data experience, greatly improving customer experience. For example, RTSS enables customers to set their own budget controls and spend thresholds, to transfer minutes/data between users, to convert resources from one type to another (e.g. minutes into megabytes), and to upgrade the bandwidth of a particular app temporarily. Shared Plans are enabled while putting real time control into the hands of consumers.

“We are delighted to receive this recognition of a solution developed to enable operators to deliver a greatly enhanced user experience, while maximizing revenue,” said Dr Tiller. “The need is clear - independent research conducted by consultants at Northstream shows that mobile operators in Western Europe could increase annual data revenues by about €4 billion by giving customers greater control of their use and spend, and could also save more than €540 million annually in customer care costs.”

AsiaInfo’s Cloud-based Operation Platform Container (COPC), developed with China Mobile, was a finalist in the ‘Best Use of Cloud Services by a Telco’ category. The COPC is a centralized BSS system with a distributed multi-tenancy architecture that streamlines business operations across operator subsidiaries. Estimated to reduce the overall time to market for new services and offers by 40%, and reduce average processing time of service orders by 30%, implementation of the COPC significantly increases customer satisfaction. For China Mobile, Capex and Opex savings were $120 million within the first year of use. The revenue increase derived from shortened order processing time, and the new products enabled by the COPC, is estimated to be $40 million every year.

The 2014 Telecoms.com Industry Awards is a new initiative that celebrates the wide-ranging achievements of the key players within the global communications industry.

192  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Power Module Design for an Ultra Efficient Three-Level Utility Grid Solar Invert on: February 20, 2014, 06:05:09 PM
Unterhaching, Germany, 20th February 2014 – The race to achieve highest efficiency had engineers turning to innovative topologies and new components such as SiC to take the lead.
In parallel, after years of dormancy, old but very innovative ideas such as the mixed-voltage NPC topology have been rediscovered and put to good use in many solar inverter applications.
Surprisingly, all these efforts have focused on the power range up to 100kW, while standard two-level topologies with low switching frequencies continue to dominate in the range beyond 100kW.
The problem is that the extended geometry of high-power applications makes it difficult to avoid parasitic inductance. On top of that, the effect of parasitic components increases linearly with current. Most designs reduce switching speed to limit the influence of parasitic effects. And true enough, dynamic losses are indeed minimized when the switching frequency is reduced by up to 4kHz.
The new power module design presented here transcends the limitations associated with >100kW power inverters to accommodate high switching frequencies and innovative topologies. Based on standard Si components, this new solution uses parasitic inductance and applies the fundamentals of power electronics to boost the performance of conventional designs.

196  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Self-organising small cell backhaul pioneer CCS announces live deployment with C on: February 17, 2014, 04:10:38 PM
Cambridge, UK, 17th February 2014 – CCS (Cambridge Communication Systems Limited), the developer of the world’s first self-organising small cell microwave backhaul system for mobile networks, today announces that its solution is in live deployment with China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile operator. The small cell network is operational now, delivering enhanced coverage and capacity in a busy urban hotspot environment and marking one of China Mobile’s first outdoor deployments of 4G LTE-TDD small cells.

China is the world’s largest mobile market with an estimated 1.2 billion users, and was recently selected by CCS as its manufacturing base, providing the company with key access to what is expected to be the world’s biggest small cell market. According to recently released research by Dell’Oro, the global mobile backhaul equipment market is predicted to be worth $8 billion by 2018 (January 2014).

In the landmark implementation, CCS’s CE-marked, self-organising backhaul nodes were deployed by local lighting contractors in only 15 minutes per site, without training or the need to perform complicated frequency planning or alignment, delivering immediate and optimal 4G coverage to China Mobile subscribers. A single compact unit connects to other units to create a multipoint-to-multipoint network that self-organises into the most optimal topology, without the requirement to post-optimise. The locations consist of a single CCS node together with a single or dual small cell, forming a 4G/LTE Macro and small cell HetNet (heterogeneous network).

The network demonstrates the advanced self-organisation capabilities of CCS's solution together with its self-healing capabilities in the event of a node or link failure. The network easily provides the high capacity, low latency, carrier-class availability and high QoS required when backhauling next generation LTE small-cells. The network is now carrying live 4G traffic and the flexible architecture dynamically reconfigures and adapts, allowing the network to organically scale to connect further small cells in surrounding areas. With simple, low-cost and fast deployment, the CCS solution significantly reduces the OPEX of the last mile backhaul, with CAPEX also reduced as only one unit is required per location.

China Mobile currently has around 763M subscribers and launched its TD-LTE network in December 2013. China Mobile expects to construct its 4G networks in over 340 cities to reach a total of more than 500,000 TD-LTE base stations by the end of 2014.

Commenting on today’s announcement, CCS CEO Steve Greaves said: “This is a highly significant deployment for CCS, which demonstrates the unrivalled technical and business benefits that our solution is delivering to the world’s largest mobile network operator.” He added: “Our self-organising, self-healing nodes are able to be very swiftly and flexibly deployed by relatively untrained contractors – without any upfront frequency planning or optimisation – saving both time and money while delivering the high levels of capacity, latency and redundancy demanded by China Mobile. With this flagship implementation and our new manufacturing base in China, CCS is now strategically very well-placed to create a strong leadership position in backhaul as the small cell market growth accelerates.”

CCS will be showcasing its solution at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona (24 to 27 February, Fira Gran Via). For more information about CCS’s presence at Mobile World Congress 2014, to book a meeting, or to schedule a media briefing with CCS executives at the show, please visit: http://www.ccsl.com/mobile-world-congress-2014/.
