Supporting Research
• Volusion was recently positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Niche Players Quadrant of Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for E-Commerce. Inclusion in the Quadrant is based on set criteria: market traction and momentum, e-commerce product capabilities and short-term viability. The Magic Quadrant for E-Commerce was published in May 2010 and authored by Gene Alvarez, vice president of Gartner Research. (Gartner, Magic Quadrant for E-Commerce, 18 May 2010).
• “Within ten years, SaaS will be the dominant delivery mode for software. And within 2–3 years, more people will access the Internet over mobile platforms (including the forthcoming “slate” and iPad) than over laptops and desktop PCs – what we call the ‘Martini Moment’ – reinforcing this change in service delivery.” – “UK Software Market returning to growth, driven by Cloud computing” (TechMarketView LLP, Philip Carnelley, 22 April 2010).
• “European consumers are starting to show interest in mobile commerce activities. Sixteen percent of online buyers have already used their mobile phone for a shopping-related activity such as researching products using the mobile Internet, checking on the status of an order, or locating a nearby store to buy a specific product. Moreover, among mobile daily Internet users — that’s about 12 million users — one-third have already researched products or services using the mobile Internet, 20% have located a nearby store, and 18% have compared prices on a mobile device while in a shop. Even though this group is still niche, this early data gives an indication of the potential of mobile commerce.” (Forrester Research, Inc., Servicing the Multichannel Buyer in Europe, 8 September 2010).
