Over 60 senior Programme and Project Managers braved the rain and high winds to attend Metaskil’s Project Governance Masterclass in London on 9th November.
The sessions, covering every aspect of Project Governance, from a strategic and practical perspective, prompted a lengthy and highly productive Q&A debate.
Ian Faulkner, Managing Director of Metaskil commented “it is great to see that Project Governance is clearly high on the agenda at a very senior level. We have engaged today with some prestigious brands from a range of industry sectors and it is fair to say that there is a common thread revolving around having the right people and managing cultural change. What struck me was how many of the issues raised, both during the presentations themselves and in subsequent discussion and Q&A, are the very same that we were wrestling with a decade ago!:
- How do you get the right sponsor, and how do you get them engaged?
- How can you have a Governance structure that is effective - decisive and value-adding rather than obstructive?
- Why is the Steering Group packed with people for political rather than practical reasons?
- How can I deliver change in spite of the structures that I am made to work within?
The answer, as always, lies in getting the ‘people’ side right. The risk skills. The right experience. The right attitude. Why then do sponsors and other senior stakeholders seem so reluctant to get training in delivering their Governance roles? Are they complacent, seeing this as just a variation on their line roles, or frightened of seeming less than omnipotent?”
Metaskil will be making the content, video and Q&A transcript available on their website at
