Key management and tamper-resistant security at TechEd North America 2013

TechEd North America, New Orleans, LA – June 3, 2013 – Thales, leader in information systems and communications security, is showcasing its line of high assurance data protection solutions at Microsoft TechEd North America, New Orleans, June 3-6, 2013.

Thales hardware security modules (HSMs) enhance the security of Microsoft identity management and data encryption collaboration systems as well as a wide range of commercial and custom applications built on the Windows platform. Thales nShield HSMs integrate quickly and easily with applications that use Microsoft’s cryptographic APIs (CAPI and CNG) to access cryptographic processes and key management tools – an essential component of any system that relies on encryption for confidentiality, digital credentials for strong authentication and digital signatures to ensure the integrity of data and application code.

Critical enterprise security systems such as Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Services Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Rights Management Services (RMS) act to control access to systems and sensitive data across the user community, within traditional data centers and into the cloud. To complement this, secure enterprise code signing allows application developers to digitally sign applications in order to prove authenticity and determine that the application has not been modified, potentially for malicious purposes prior to it being executed. Using an HSM upholds the well-established best practice of performing sensitive cryptographic functions and the associated key management tasks within a trusted hardened device.

Richard Moulds, vice president strategy at Thales e-Security says:
“As a Microsoft Gold Certified partner, Thales has worked closely with Microsoft for more than a decade to simplify the use of cryptography across the Microsoft ecosystem. Customers and application developers can safeguard their critical business systems, and can choose a level of security assurance to suit their individual needs and regulatory requirements. Our hardware security modules provide best-in-class security enhancements to a wide range of Microsoft applications, and are particularly valuable for developers wishing to create tighter controls around the management and use of cryptographic keys in critical business systems. Together Thales and Microsoft facilitate the safe adoption of new security technologies and delivery models including virtualization and cloud computing.”

Dan Plastina, Group Manager, Information Protection at Microsoft says:
“Applications handling sensitive data have a critical need for data protection. Microsoft's new Windows Azure Active Directory Rights Management services is a prime example and will use Thales HSMs in the Windows Azure AD RM data centers worldwide. At TechEd I’ll be talking about information protection and how using Thales HSMs enhances the security of the Azure AD RM cloud offering. TechEd 2013 is a great opportunity to have hands-on experience on the latest Microsoft technologies, to learn about future Microsoft products and connect with industry thought leaders.”

TechEd North America, New Orleans 3-6, June 2013 – visit Thales on booth #2213.
