Over 400 guests attend to celebrate the launch of Telehouse West, the largest data centre in the UK capital

LONDON, UK, May 28th, 2010 - Telehouse, a leading provider of global data centres and managed ICT services has celebrated the opening of its new Telehouse West data centre with a prestigious launch event in the heart of the new facility. The evening was hosted by BBC breakfast’s Bill Turnbull, with speeches from: Mr Mitsui, Managing Director, Telehouse Europe; Mr Ishikawa, Vice President, KDDI; Mr. Hiroshi Oka, Minister of the Embassy of Japan in the United Kingdom; and Mike Harris, co-founder, Egg plc.

Following the speeches, the facility was officially opened with a traditional Japanese sake ceremony, which saw the breaking of a wooden cask with mallets and sharing of sake with the event attendees.

Telehouse was delighted to welcome key customers, including Ioka, Daiwa Capital Markets, Hitachi, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Verizon and T-Systems.  In addition, senior representatives from data centre operations around the world were in attendance, including the executive team from Teraco Data Environments with whom Telehouse Cape Town and Telehouse Johannesburg have been established.

The launch of Telehouse West marks the latest evolution of the Telehouse brand, which has also seen the organisation expand into emerging markets such as South Africa and Vietnam. As a result, Telehouse’s global data centre footprint has now reached 119,000m².  The facility will meet the demands of UK businesses for high-capacity data centres, as well as offering connectivity to over 400 ISPs, carriers, operators and Internet Exchanges. Spread over nine floors, five with a ‘localised data centre environment’, the custom-built 19,000m² state-of-the-art facility brings the total power at the company’s London Docklands site to 40MVA.

Dionne Aiken, Marketing Manager, Telehouse, commented: “Our customers and partners have been anticipating the launch of Telehouse West since our planning announcement in 2008.  Today, 20 years after the launch of our first data centre Telehouse North which was the first of its kind in Europe, we find ourselves again at the forefront of the industry.  In conjunction with parent company KDDI, our customers have access to a global network infrastructure and a range of end-to-end services including system integration, network services and ICT consultancy.”

Aiken continued: “We hope the launch event successfully articulated our sincere gratitude for the ongoing support from both customers and industry partners - and that it demonstrates how proud we are of our state-of-the-art flagship facility.”

Telehouse West will provide customers with the ability to ensure every aspect of the organisation, however disperse, has access to business critical information. The facility will help power organisations, allowing them to grow and adapt to individual market demands. Rather than being held back by the capacity crunch, Telehouse can help companies launch new ICT services resulting in greater reach around the world.
