Telefónica International Wholesale Services has selected Interoute as its core fibre optic network provider for Western Europe, responsible for deploying a next-generation optical DWDM network. As part of this strategic partnership TIWS will also become Interoute’s provider for trans-Atlantic, USA and Latin America routes.
Interoute will provide TIWS with a 100 GB capacity network connecting the major cities of Europe, to support its future expansion plans. This long-term partnership agreement reinforces the business relationship the companies have been developing for years.
TIWS will enjoy the benefits of working directly with the owner of Europe’s largest next-generation network, leveraging the economies of scale, simplicity and management convenience characterising Interoute’s network. The backbone network is designed for scalability, flexibility and route diversity to ensure the highest quality and transparency in connectivity across the entire network.
This agreement extends the TIWS network footprint to the main cities in Western Europe, including Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Dusseldorf and Marseille, and includes a plan to add more cities in the future.
TIWS’ Chief Executive Officer, José Ramón Vela, declared that: “With this agreement, we are responding to the growth experienced by the Telefónica Group in Europe over the last few years, both organic, resulting from the growth in broadband connections, and inorganic, with our entry into new markets. Following its commitment to meet Telefónica’s international and global needs, TIWS strengthens its network in Europe with a trusted partner, Interoute.”
"Telefónica has an outstanding track record that has placed it among the most admired and iconic companies in Europe", says Gareth Williams, Interoute’s Chief Executive Officer. "We are committed to the success of their business in the continent, and Interoute’s size, scale and expertise in managing outsourced network projects make it the ideal partner to support TIWS. Seeing Telefónica’s confidence renewed with such a significant project is very gratifying for us."
