Quickdraw Prysmian Strengthens Its Presence in Asia
« Posted: June 18, 2010, 07:01:35 PM »

Global cables giant Prysmian has been one of the top attractions at CommunicAsia in Singapore this week, where its range of FTTH solutions attracted enormous interest from all corners of the bandwidth-hungry Asian market.

In a week when the Broadband Forum announced that broadband lines had reached 484 million globally – with the top growth coming from Asia -Prysmian’s FTTH range stole the show. Prysmian’s approach is based upon a combination of existing technologies – such as its Sirocco® Blown Fibre System – and new solutions such as Quickdr@w® pre-connectorised cable and the VertiCasaTM system – which provides a highly efficient way of deploying fibres in high rise buildings and for multi dwelling units.

And the range is already proving a real winner in ASEAN, with major supply contracts in Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei and in Singapore, where the company has supplied Singtel with high fibre count cable to support the national broadband programme.

“The Asia Pacific region is extremely important to us today, as it has been for many years,” said global telecoms business director Hakan Ozmen.

“With factories in Indonesia, China and Australia – and with offices throughout the region – Prysmian is already a major local player, and one with the global strength and ongoing commitment to continue to deliver the very latest solutions to meet the market demands of broadband going forward”.

At CommunicAsia, Prysmian unveiled the latest version of its Quickdr@w pre-connectorised cable for the first time anywhere in the world. Quickdr@w was developed to provide a simple solution to boost rapid FTTH rollout by enabling less skilled installers to create the final customer drop. The system comprises a Fibre Distribution Hub (FDH), Connectorised Lead-In Joints (CLJ), Lead-In Assemblies (LIA) and Customer Demarcation Boxes to allow “last mile” connection from a high capacity ring. Designed originally for an Australian market solution, Quickdr@w has already sold elsewhere around the world, including the UK and South Africa.

“Prysmian technology is today one of the critical components of FTTH delivery across the planet,” added Mr Ozmen.

“Our cables and fibres do not get the glory in the bandwidth revolution that is taking place all around us. However our customers – the operators who make it all possible – are showing enormous faith in the quality, the innovation and the reliability of what we offer”.
