Panasonic has teamed with ViaSat Inc. to offer IL2 to IL6 Top Secret level security encryption for its rugged Toughpad FZ-G1 tablet making it ideal for MOD and other security conscious markets, such as emergency services and the oil & gas industry.

Panasonic’s 10.1 inch, fully rugged and lightweight tablet is now available via partners with the option of a ViaSat Eclypt® encrypted hard drive. Eclypt® hard drives and Inline Media Encryptors are accredited and certified around the world for use by organisations including government agencies, military forces, education, healthcare and financial institutions to ensure premium data protection.

ViaSat has successfully tested the Toughpad FZ-G1 using Microsoft Windows 7 and 8 operating systems with its full range of Core drives, and confirms protection from FIPs (IL2) up to Enhanced (IL6). This level of secure data protection, combined with the portability and power of the Panasonic’s FZ-G1 tablet, means secure mobility is now a reality.

Kevin Tristram, General Manager at Panasonic Toughbook UK & Ireland said: “This collaboration with ViaSat ensures the Toughpad FZ-G1 is perfectly equipped for the defence industry and other security conscious markets.”

Chris McIntosh CEO of ViaSat said; “With the ever-increasing demands on accessing sensitive data 24/7, securing mobile platforms to the highest level is becoming increasingly significant. ViaSat’s Eclypt® technology ensures that your data is secure by default even if lost or stolen. Combining Eclypt® technology with the Panasonic FZ-G1 tablet provides a CAPS accredited mobile platform that can be deployed within the high threat Government, Military and Critical Infrastructure Protection environments. That provides a totally reliable, secure and powerful portable system”.

The Panasonic FZ-G1 Toughpad equipped with ViaSat Eclypt® encryption is enabled by a specially created caddy from Eurotempest.

The Toughpad FZ-G1 has been designed for mobile workers who spend much of their time working outside or from vehicles. The thin and lightweight device, weighing only 1.1kg, has been designed to take full advantage of the functionality offered by Windows 8 Pro operating system and offers two-way touch input with its capacitive 10-finger multi-touch screen and digitizer pen for tasks.

The first fully rugged device to use the latest IPSα Panel technology, developed by Panasonic, the FZ-G1 provides new levels of viewing quality for tablet users working outside. Offering extra wide viewing angles, strengthened glass, high contrast ratio and 800cd/m2 high brightness paired with a Panasonic anti-reflection layer, the 10.1” over Full HD (1920x1200) Resolution screen is purpose built to perform in any light conditions.
