MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS, BARCELONA, Spain - Feb. 15, 2011

News Facts

As a member of the Wholesale Application Community (WAC), Oracle is contributing and collaborating with the largest global initiative of mobile communications service providers and vendors to establish a common network application programming interface (API) framework to network-enable their existing application stores.

The WAC is an industry-wide consortium establishing a common framework to simplify mobile application development by enabling developers to write applications that can be deployed across multiple platforms and operators - helping reach a potential global market of more than 3 billion users.

Network-enabled application stores allow third-party developers to use valuable capabilities inherent in an operator's communications network - such as in-application billing, premium messaging and mobile advertising campaigns - to develop richer applications for consumers and enterprises.
Application store network-enablement also allows communications service providers to implement an effective upstream business model - generating revenue from third-party developers and enterprises that wish to use their networks for distribution and as a tool for building more innovative applications.

Oracle is showcasing its WAC-capable, network-enabled application store solution based on Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper in the Oracle Pavilion and discussing the importance of application store network enablement at the Oracle Java Booth during Mobile World Congress, Feb. 14-17 in Barcelona, Spain.
