Open Mobile Alliance Webinar to Address Smart Networks of the Future
« Posted: October 22, 2013, 09:36:53 PM »

An opportunity to meet with leaders from the entire OTT and mobile ecosystem co-located with CoAP & OMA Lightweight M2M interoperability test event

San Diego, CA October 22, 2013 – Network operators, app developers and equipment and handset vendors will be among the line-up gathering in Las Vegas in November to participate in the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) seminar titled “Defining Smart Networks to Maximize Quality of Experience for OTT Applications”. The seminar will take place at Planet Hollywood on November 21 and participants around the world will be able to join the event over an interactive webcast streamed live throughout the day.

The agenda will include industry leaders such as Telecom Italia, AT&T and Twilio, among others. Speakers will explore what over-the-top (OTT) vendors need from operators to optimize application performance, as well as what capabilities the mobile ecosystem players can expose to ensure maximum Quality of Experience (QoE) for end users.  The OMA will also present some of the enablers that are being developed, which all together will define a framework to allow mobile operators to offer their networks to OTT players as smart networks.

“Over-the-top (OTT) applications are becoming increasingly popular as consumers download apps on their smartphones to aid them in everyday life,” said Gary K. Jones, Board Chairman at Open Mobile Alliance.  “This in turn is putting increasing pressure on the network operators to deliver smarter networks that optimize the applications performance and increase users QoE.  The seminar will address all areas of the mobile ecosystem to draw conclusions and recommendations on where the OMA and all players can contribute to defining specifications for smarter networks of the future.”

Attendees can join in person or over the interactive live-streamed webinar, which will enable viewers to present questions to the panel.  Attendance is free for OMA members and a select number of invited guests.  See http://www.omaevents.org/ to register for the webinar.  Interested in speaking? Contact Tim Haysom [email protected] for more information.

M2M Test Event
Taking place at the same time as the smart networks seminar is the CoAP and OMA Lightweight M2M interoperability test event, hosted by ETSI Plugtests™, the IPSO Alliance and the OMA from November 19-22 at Planet Hollywood.  The event will assess the interoperability of different CoAP implementations including OMA LWM2M and security enablers. Participation at this interoperability event is open to everyone with an implementation to test and is free of charge.

"We are proud to partner with the OMA to empower the industry with secure, efficient communication and data objects for the Internet of Things. As industry developments such as Big Data, Web semantics and shared cloud M2M infrastructures take hold, OMA and IPSO will continue to work together to break down barriers to interoperability", said Zach Shelby, IPSO Alliance Board Member.
