Market-leading OSS/BSS supplier keeps DreamHack festival up and running

18 June 2012 Technology from NETadmin Systems, a market leader in end-to-end, next generation network OSS/BSS solutions, is being used to manage and monitor the performance of the giant LAN used at DreamHack, the planet’s largest digital festival.

The network, which is constructed for the event by a team of 30 specialist individuals from many different organisations, has previously been recognised by the Guinness Book of Records and Twin Galaxies as the world’s largest LAN when 13,292 devices were connected to it. 

At this year’s DreamHack Summer event a NETadmin system is being used to monitor network devices to optimise their performance, and to initiate any required remedial interventions before any network malfunctions can take effect.

Normally the NETadmin User Portal automatically provisions network services chosen by end users, lets them select the services they want, and enables them to pick out desired connection speeds or opt for various channel packages. Here, though, the User Portal will present organisers with a host of unique statistics concerning the performance of the network, and also enable festival visitors to participate in a fun-to-play IRL game.

Karl Andersson, one of the leaders of the team constructing the DreamHack network, is also a Solutions Architect at NETadmin Systems. “Involvement in the DreamHack proceedings benefits not only the festival itself, but provides us with some unique insights into the provisioning and operation of very sophisticated high speed network facilities. DreamHack Summer 2012 is being held from 16 to 19 of June at the Elmia Fair venue in Jonkoping, Sweden. The event is focused on everything and anything that can be done with computers, the Internet, digital entertainment and culture. The organisers promise an action-packed programme of gaming, communication, programming, designing, and music composing, along with a lot of large tournaments, compos and a great expo.
