Yangon event to showcase unique market opportunity as Myanmar looks to achieve 80% telecoms penetration within three years.

The Allworld Exhibitions Alliance, whose Asian event experience includes CommunicAsia show in Singapore, is to stage the first ever major telecoms event in Myanmar providing a showcase for one the world’s largest undeveloped markets to play host to the international telecoms industry.

Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, has a population of more than 60 million people yet mobile and fixed line penetration levels among the lowest anywhere in the world. With mobile user levels thought to be at around 10% and internet and fixed line usage in the region of 2% but a Government target of 80% by 2016 the market offers unequalled opportunities.

“We are tremendously excited to have the opportunity of organising this exhibition at such as critical time in the development of  telecommunications across Myanmar,” said Director for the show, Rupert Owen.

“The Government has already shown its commitment with the granting of  two mobile licenses and this is sending a strong message to the world that Myanmar is committed to infrastructure development on a truly massive scale. I doubt there is another country of similar size anywhere in the world today that can provide such an opportunity to vendors, innovators and solutions providers across a whole range of technologies,” he added.

The event, CommuniCast 2014, is being staged at the Myanmar Convention Centre in Yangon from March 5-7. The venue will offer two levels of exhibition and seminar space and the show has been welcomed by Than Htun Aung, Government Director of the Posts and Telecommunications Department.

“The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is delighted to support the first CommuniCast Myanmar event. In this regard, the Ministry invites global mobile and network operators,  telecoms and IT suppliers from around the world to showcase their latest technologies, combining with solutions to take the country’s communications industry to the next level,” he said.

Details about the event can be found at http://www.communicastmyanmar.com/ or by emailing Rupert Owen directly at [email protected]

“This show is the platform for the industry to get involved in one of  the last great largely untapped markets,” added Mr Owen.

“The granting of the two mobile licenses has already shown the Government’s commitment to delivering on their ambition and any organisation that is serious about supplying and partnering in Asia should be thinking seriously about being in Yangon next March”.

Allworld Exhibitions and its member companies are market leaders in exhibitions in South East Asia and have recently launched a full programme of industry events in Myanmar.
