Mimecast Makes Email Easy for Macmillan Cancer Support

Leading cancer charity integrates email systems with secure cloud-based unified email management

4 October 2010 – London: Mimecast®, a unified email management company offering cloud-based email security, continuity, policy control and archiving, today announced that it has been selected by leading charity Macmillan Cancer Support to provide  email services to the organisation’s 950 users.

Macmillan Cancer Support, a UK charity providing practical, medical and financial support for those suffering from cancer, began looking for an alternative system when the organisation’s contract with its existing archiving provider came to an end in May this year. From a short-list including Google and Webroot, Mimecast was selected primarily on the basis of its continuity capabilities with the additional benefit of fully integrated email security and the potential to add archiving at a later date.

Integrated with Macmillan’s existing Microsoft Exchange 2007 environment, Mimecast’s continuity services allow MacMillan employees to send and receive emails during both planned and unplanned email server outage.  The cloud-based service has also proved highly successful at keeping out spam and flagging suspicious activity, as well as giving the IT team greater visibility of email usage across the organisation.

James Byrne, Systems Support Manager at Macmillan, commented; “We are hugely impressed with what has been achieved so far. Mimecast’s continuity service means we can now keep business email flowing at all times, even if our on-site infrastructure suffers a total outage. With so many of our employees reliant on email 24 hours a day, seven days a week, this really is crucial to maintaining productivity. The service is undoubtedly making day-to-day admin easier to handle, and adding extra functionality for the same cost as our previous service.”

Peter Bauer, co- founder and CEO of Mimecast added; “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and look forward to working with such a reputable, well-known and worthwhile charity. All organisations rely heavily on their email and with 85% of confidential information and intellectual property stored in email systems, the need to keep email flowing at all times has never been greater. Furthermore, with spam increasing by more than 30 percent per year and 65 percent of data leakages occurring via email, it is imperative that organisations work to minimise such threats in the most cost-effective way possible. We are confident that Mimecast’s services will create a secure, simple and safe system that enables MacMillan to achieve just that.”
