Microsoft: We're serious about Internet safety and privacy

At RSA Conference 2008, Craig Mundie, Microsoft's Chief Research and Strategy Officer, announced his company's "End to End Trust vision," which aims to give users more control over what is trustworthy online. Microsoft published a white paper describing the initiative and the concept of a "trusted stack" where each element – including the operating system, applications, people and data – can be authenticated and is trustworthy.The company has also created a forum for those interested in discussing security and privacy on the Internet in general. In a statement, Mundie said that the end goal of the proposal is "a more secure and trustworthy Internet, but it’s also important that we give people the tools that empower them to make good trust choices. End to End Trust will enable new opportunities for collaboration on solutions to social, political, economic and technical issues that will have a long-term impact on Internet security and privacy."
