Reinforcing a one-stop shop approach for licensing of electrowetting displays
15 April 2010 – Eindhoven – Today, Liquavista BV., announced the acquisition of a significant portfolio of IP, which will further strengthen their current electrowetting based display portfolio and bring further benefits to consumers.
“We are really pleased about these recent IP acquisitions.” Said Guy Demuynck, Liquavista CEO. “They add further strength to our world leadership in the field of electrowetting IP and further consolidates our position as a one stop shop for the licensing of electrowetting display technology. Since our launch in 2006 Liquavista has built an extensive IP portfolio, and the latest acquisitions are a further testimony of us fulfilling our business strategy.”
“Our current portfolio already enables us to cover all modes of operation; reflective, transmissive and transflective, as well as providing us with a broad coverage throughout our value proposition” added Johan Feenstra, CTO. “As such, in addition to protecting the core principle of making electrowetting displays in a way that re-uses the current infrastructure, it also covers other areas, including materials and driving methods”.
“This new range of IP will further bring value directly to the consumer and strengthens our commitments and offer to our partners. Combined with Liquavista’s portfolio, this IP enables us to continue to fulfil our technologies core values; low power consumption with colour and video capability and outdoor readability.” stated Guy. “Our ultimate vision beyond our current focus on mobile applications is to lead to a green revolution in low power displays for notebook PC’s, desktop monitors and televisions and these new acquisitions will further enable us to fulfil this vision.”
Liquavista offers a new type of electronic screen technology that will change the way we interact with mobile phones, media players, electronic readers and other mobile devices. Liquavista’s displays create bright and colorful images that ensure excellent indoor and outdoor viewability and use dramatically less battery power. Users can engage with their favorite applications for longer before a recharge is necessary and battery sizes can be reduced allowing devices to be thinner and lighter.
Liquavista’s technology is the only solution, other than LCD, which operates in all three modes but with strongly increased optical performance. Offering bright and colorful images that ensure excellent indoor and outdoor readability and use dramatically less battery power Liquavista’s displays offer a truly multimedia experience for the consumer. Liquavista displays are more than 90% compatible with standard LCD manufacturing equipment and processes. Described as LCD 2.0, Liquavista’s technology is simply an upgrade for existing manufacturing facilities. This enables our partners to quickly re-use their manufacturing assets to manufacture our displays and bring exciting, highly differentiated products to life with both enhanced usability and performance, yet with a rapid time-to-market.
Liquavista are developing three technology platforms (LiquavistaBright™, LiquavistaColor™ and LiquavistaVivid™) planned for product implementation throughout 2010/2011
