Zagreb in Croatia is to be the location of the SCTE™ (Society for Broadband Professionals) 2013 Balkan Broadband conference and exhibition on 3 October 2013. The event is set to take place at the Westin Zagreb and will include a morning conference with Keynote presentations from government officials and key Balkan cable operators on broadband operations and strategy. The event is free for SCTE members to attend.

The SCTE’s fifth Balkan Broadband Conference will offer top-level Keynote speakers and exhibition floors where investors, operators, technicians and installers ‘Meet & Greet’ the international exhibitors. Last year’s Balkan Broadband conference and exhibition in Belgrade in Serbia attracted 400 visitors and 30 exhibitors. SCTE has a strong membership in the Balkans and has already held conferences and exhibitions in Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia as well as technical lecture meetings in Albania.

SCTE training courses in the Balkans have netted the Society many new members and a reputation as a leading broadband trainer in the region. Croatia is set to join the EU later this year and there are many exciting opportunities in this region which hosts many cable operators. SCTE recently appointed a locally-based country manager for the region, Maja Škvorc, to handle SCTE member subscriptions, training and the set-up of local SCTE groups in Croatia as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Maja Skvorc commented: “The Balkan Broadband Conference is an exciting opportunity for people in the industry to meet and hear some very interesting speakers. This year’s programme will provide important insights into future developments in the region and is already generating a lot of interest from members and companies in the region.”

Founded in 1945, the SCTE is a Learned Society and non-profit making organisation whose aim is to raise the standard of broadband engineering in the telecommunications industry. The Society particularly concerns itself with the training and career advancement of technical professionals in the field.
