Kabel BW, Germany’s third-largest cable television operator, rolled out its “Kabel BW Videothek” on-demand television service this month with film studio and content services provided through On Demand Deutschland – the joint venture of Tele München Gruppe and On Demand Group, a subsidiary of SeaChange International (Nasdaq: SEAC). “Kabel BW Videothek” is now live to cable subscribers offering hundreds of films and series with complete on-demand control and convenience. Started on selected set-top-boxes, the service is available in the whole network and will become accessible to all 2.3 million Kabel BW subscribers across Southwestern Germany.
“Kabel BW Videothek” offers in the first step a broad range of movies on-demand from all major Hollywood studios including, Paramount/Dreamworks, FOX, MGM, Universal, Sony and Warner Bros., as well as independents including Constantin and Tele München Gruppe. On Demand Deutschland services to Kabel BW include content acquisition, content processing, scheduling, metadata preparation, on-screen promotions and service management and marketing support.
“The launch of our ‘Kabel BW Videothek' demonstrates the dominance of our interactive network and the innovational power of the established cable network standards. Our customers can simply enjoy without having to worry about complicated technology," stated Harald Roesch, CEO of Kabel BW.
“Kabel BW is the latest operator to introduce on-demand television using content from On Demand Deutschland and we are already looking forward to other new customer rollouts in the new year,” said Boris A. Benefeld, CEO of On Demand Deutschland.
“On Demand Group and Tele München Gruppe have supported the launch of five new VOD and pay-per-view services in Germany and Austria since the inception of our On Demand Deutschland joint venture,” said Tony Kelly, CEO, On Demand Group. “On Demand Deutschland’s success is a testament to the strong demand for high-quality, compelling VOD and PPV movie and TV content in Europe’s German-speaking regions.”
