Bloxx, the innovator in Web and Email content filtering, today announced that John R Weir Limited is using Bloxx Web filtering to monitor and report on the Web browsing activity of over 230 staff split over the company’s seven sites.  The company is currently using the Bloxx TVT-250, powered by Bloxx Tru-View Technology, to analyse, categorise and filter Web content in real time, ensuring its users are protected to the highest standard at all times and minimising network security risks.

The company decided to replace their existing Web filtering boxes with a centralized appliance from Bloxx.  Andrew Pratt, Group IT Manager at John R Weir said, “Our previous Web filtering solution was very unreliable and was difficult and complex to manage. We have been using the Bloxx Web Filter for over five months and are extremely pleased with the results. We needed to monitor Internet use and have more control over what users are allowed to view and I’m pleased to say that the Bloxx Web Filter does this perfectly. I now believe that we have the ideal solution in place that delivers the superior protection we need to safeguard staff and the company,” says Andrew.

The company has adopted and enforced an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) with tailored sensitivity for different groups and departments. Andrew adds, “We have put in place different access policies across the company and utilise the non-working-time feature in the Bloxx Web Filter, which enables users to access the Internet for personal surfing outside core working hours. We can now communicate and manage an AUP for Web surfing and take the appropriate action if Web abuse by a member of staff occurs. This ensures that our staff stay on track and are protected from the nasty side of the Web.”

The reporting functionality is fundamental to the company’s ongoing Internet access programme. “Thanks to the simple interface, I have delegated the reporting task to a non-technical member of staff. We check staff Internet access daily, identifying any Web access abuse and use the reports in discussions with any staff who we feel are carrying out personal surfing during work hours. If required we can quickly access lots of different types of reports and drill down to look at specific situations, users or Web sites,” comments Andrew.

Andrew concludes, “Overall, the Bloxx Web Filter is a million times better than our previous solution. I am positive that Web abuse has been eradicated at the company.
