02 August 2011 - Decreased financial credibility, decreased user productivity and increased support costs were the top 3 identified risks of a poorly performing v11 implementation according to survey by Triometric.

In a survey conducted for Triometric at the recent UK Oracle User Group Conference Series EPM & Hyperion, the vast majority of respondents (91%) revealed that the performance of their Hyperion application is critical or highly important to their organisations, a 15% increase over last year.

Whilst 44% of respondents have already completed their upgrade to v11, a clear pattern has begun to emerge: more and more organizations are investing in stress testing exercises. Well over half (61%) of recipients have stress tested or will stress test the v11 upgrade in order to mitigate the risks associated with upgrading.

According to the survey respondents, the greatest risks are: decreased user productivity (67%), decreased group-finance credibility (62%) and increased support overhead and support calls (60%). Nearly half of respondents (47%) also feared personal or career implications as a result of a poorly performing v11 implementation.

The survey, conducted among the 81* end-user organisations at the event in mid-June, also highlights a migration from limited functional testing with real users to performing automated testing with agents and test scripts prior to go live. Out of the companies that consider testing part of the upgrade process, over half (55%) will be using or have used automated testing.

Catriona Harrison, Director of Group Reporting Systems at Invensys, who presented at the event explained, "We initially ran a set of tests among our global Hyperion users to understand how the system performed at peak periods. However, we soon realised that we were going to need a lot more testing, especially after system modifications.

Therefore, we decided to go ahead and introduce automated stress testing with Triometric, our support partner". She continued "Triometric's expertise and approach to stress testing and monitoring v11, has definitely made the upgrade journey smoother."

Roderick Parks, Technical Consultant at Triometric, adds "An upgrade ‘go ahead' should only be given once service delivery can be assured, and without stress testing this decision cannot be fact or data driven. Fortunately, with Triometric's technology, performance issues around infrastructure, application and configuration can be resolved and re-tested making the decision making process far simpler and ensuring optimum performance".

Cecil Wilson, Enterprise Business Manager at Triometric adds "At Triometric, we are working alongside Oracle, Hyperion customers and partners to help ensure this investment is protected and that v11 benefits are realised from day one."
