Health Education England and Local Education and Training Boards to take centre stage at Third Annual Clinfield Conference
Building Careers in Clinical Research: in partnership with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
Research nurses, midwives, Allied Healthcare Professionals and other research practitioners will join forces and break down barriers to discuss career pathways, support, training opportunities and the future of UK healthcare research professionals on 20 November, central London. Taking centre stage will be key organisations such as Health Education England, Local Education and Training Boards (North West London), National Institute for Health Research, Royal College of Nursing, GlaxoSmithKline, Imperial College London and many more.
Building Careers in Clinical Research is a unique opportunity for this group to have its collective voice heard, as the engine that drives UK clinical research. The Conference is a collaborative grass roots initiative, overseen by a multidisciplinary group of healthcare researchers working at the forefront of patient care.

Lisa Bayliss Pratt, Director of Nursing at Health Education England (“HEE”), and Marcia Saunders, Chair of Health Education North West London Local Education and Training Board (“LETB”), will explore the roles of the recently created HEE and the 13 regional LETBs, as well as the implications and emerging training opportunities for clinical researchers, including research nurses.

Key Note Speaker 1: Dr Lisa Bayliss-Pratt, Director of Nursing HEE Lisa was previously Assistant Director of Nursing at Midlands and East Strategic Health Authority where she led on patient experience and nurse improvement methodology. In her early career, Lisa worked in a variety of nursing roles across the public and private sector specialising in emergency care and surgery. Since then she has taken up a range of national roles including operational lead for preceptorship at the Department of Health. Lisa completed a Doctorate of Clinical Practice at the University of Southampton and is currently an Honorary Fellow and PhD supervisor at the University of Wolverhampton. Lisa is passionate about patient experience, education in practice, research and innovation and nurse improvement programmes. Lisa was instrumental in the roll out of Flying Start England, the national development programme for all newly qualified nurses, midwives and allied health professionals in NHS England.

Key Note 2: Marcia Saunders. Marcia is Chair of Health Education North West London, a Local Education and Training Board accountable to Health Education England. Part of the new NHS architecture, HENWL is responsible for workforce planning and strategy, and for commissioning education and training for health services staff of all professions, disciplines and levels in North West London. She was formerly Chair of NHS Brent and Harrow, Vice Chair of the North West London Primary Care Trust Cluster and Chair of the North West London Health Innovation and Education Partnership Board. Marcia is a member of the Board of Governors of De Montfort University, a performance assessor for the General Medical Council (GMC) and a member of the Medicines & Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA)’s Independent Scientific Advisory Committee for the use of the General Practice Research Database (GPRD). Her main career was in local government and in management.
