Fujikura Europe has launched a new Engineering and Optimisation Service, aimed at helping customers get the most out of their splicing equipment.

Helping to accelerate customers’ products and brands to market, Fujikura’s specialist team of engineers can assist in the fabrication and development of optical components which may require a critical splice. This includes dissimilar fibre splicing, ball lens, tapering, combiners, Thermal Expansion of Core (TEC), and Mode Field Adaptors.

The service has been launched at a time when optimisation is becoming increasingly important to achieve high quality splicing and compete against the constant introduction of new fibres and the mixing of fibre types.

“Through working with our customers and understanding their evolving needs, we know how optimisation is essential in minimising splice loss and keeping splices physically robust in areas that include opto-electronic applications, such as optical amplifiers and sensors,” said Neil Bessant, Fusion Splicer Divisional Manager at Fujikura Europe. “We have a team of specialist engineers on site to show customers how they can use their specialty splicing technology in different ways in order to bring in more business and work faster.”

Optimisation plays an important role in maximising the benefits of sweep arc technology, which minimises the effects of differences in mode field diameters in a pair of fibres, thereby minimising splice loss. Fujikura’s range of splicing equipment that can assist customers for optimisation includes the ARCMaster™ FSM-100 series, LAZERMaster™ LZM-100 Laser Splicing System, Fibre Cleaver CT100 and Polyimide Coating Stripper PCS-100.

Fujikura’s optimisation includes testing over 50 splicer machine parameters, ranging from splicer arc power to fibre movement rate. Separate loss estimation optimisation, to maximise the accuracy of the loss estimation function on the machine to provide the most accurate splice loss readings is also available.

Business sectors which will be able to benefit from splicing optimisation include; Fibre Manufacturers, Fibre Laser Manufacturers, Fibre Sensor Manufacturers across Oil and Gas and Biomedical. University and Government Research Institutions, R&D divisions in Telco Operators, OEM / Manufacturing Facilities and Military / Defence organisations can also use the service.

“Fujikura’s onsite training centre can provide all the equipment required and we are confident that our customers who choose to use the service will be equipped with new splicing skills to improve how they use our technology,” added Bessant.
