Data centre design & build specialists to construct and deploy dce’s Evo-POD™ modular data centre solution
London, UK, 27 February 2013: data city exchange (dce), the innovative data centre solutions provider, has entered into a manufacture, sales and distribution agreement with UK based data centre design and build company 2bm. The partnership will see 2bm supply, build and install dce’s pioneering modular data centre design, the Evo-POD™, across the UK, Europe and the Middle East.
The partnership follows 2bm’s successful delivery of Evo-POD™ build projects for dce and comes at a time of upsurge in global demand within the technology industry for modular, rapid deployment data centre solutions. The move will allow dce to focus on developing its global managed data centre network which will see two flagship data centres open in Birmingham and Belfast in the coming months to be followed by other locations in the UK, Europe, and the Middle East.
Created by dce as a true alternative to a ‘bricks and mortar’ data centre, the Evo-POD™ is the world’s most scalable low power usage effectiveness (PUE) modular data centre, featuring a highly flexible resilient power and cooling solution as used in the multi award winning ARM data centre project installed by 2bm in Cambridge in 2012.
The Evo-POD™ is available globally to customers both at dce campus sites, such as Central Exchange Birmingham, in third party facilities and at customer proprietary sites, and can be integrated into existing buildings or alternatively deployed as a standalone external data centre. Unlike container data centres, the Evo-POD™, is built on site and can be modified to bespoke customer requirements and rapidly deployed within 20 weeks.
The innovative modular cooling design of the Evo-POD™ allows for a higher density of rack space, matching the performance of a typical 10,000ft2 data centre with scalable cooling capacity from 200kW up to 2.4MW within the same 96 rack footprint, helping to reduce both carbon footprint and operating costs. The Evo-POD™ is available in 96 and 48 rack foot prints as standard and can be customised to fit any customer size requirements for rack capacity, cooling density and cooling technology. 12 and 24 rack Evo-PODs are due for release to market in the next few months.
Speaking on the announcement, Mark King, managing director of 2bm said: “The Evo-POD™ solution from dce is a fantastic modular product that has arrived at what is an exciting time of growth for the data centre industry. The current market conditions mean that customers are demanding modular and scalable solutions that can be deployed rapidly and with environmental impact a perennial concern, the Evo-POD™ is a compelling proposition for many and we are delighted to be involved with dce in the global delivery of this ground breaking solution.”
Based in Nottingham, 2bm is one of the UK’s fastest growing providers of data centre design and build services. 2bm has an extensive list of high-profile customers including IBM, Capgemini, ARM and Yorkshire Water as well as number of public sector clients.
“2bm is perhaps the most forward-thinking data centre services company in the UK, and their ability to install, supply and commission our solution to the highest specification without compromising quality of build is essential,” said John Eland, founder and CEO of dce. “Outsourcing construction of the Evo-POD™ solution to a key strategic partner like 2bm has obvious advantages for us as we look to establish our global network of managed data centres, while at the same time marketing a revolutionary product and maximising efficiency and customer satisfaction.”
dce has opened a full size 96 rack show Evo-POD™ facility at their Central Exchange campus site in Birmingham allowing customers to view an Evo-POD™ and test hardware, software and latency in a live environment prior to making any form of commitment. There is also a fully operational tier 3 Evo-POD™ being constructed at Central Exchange which will be ready for tenancy from May 2013.
