Cambridge Wireless and S-Tech insure Support for Start-Ups
« Posted: May 15, 2013, 05:47:28 PM »

Cambridge, UK - May 15th 2013. Organised by Cambridge Wireless, the conference will be focussing on ‘The Internet of Things (Did you really say 50 billion devices?)’; exploring how everything is set to be connected, the impact this will have on the physical world and the opportunities for business. The Start-Up Zone will be a thriving hot spot at the conference, bursting with small tech companies showcasing their innovation and ideas. With only two demo tables remaining, the Start-Up Zone is proving to be very popular. Companies interested in having a demo table within the Start-Up Zone should contact Clare Kettle on 01223 422367.
Among those taking part in the Start-Up Zone will be ei Technologies, which is developing a way of detecting emotion in the voice through a smart phone application. “It’s like a heart monitor for emotions,” explains joint company founder Matt Dobson. “The idea is that it will be used by mental health patients who are currently expected to keep a diary of their emotions, which can be very laborious.”
The App is able to deduce changes in a person’s mood and provide useful information for their psychologist. The company was set up last year and is currently looking for a route to market and technology companies to work with. “The technology pushes the boundaries of what phones can do, so we need to talk to companies such as Qualcomm to see where their future direction is,” adds Dobson.
The major issue facing ei Tech has been finding enough time to put together all aspects of the business: “It’s not just about getting the technology right; we also need to bring in cash and develop the business side,” explains Dobson. With the help of technical advisor Professor Stephen Cox from UEA they aim to get the product up and running in the next nine months.
Recognising the very specific needs of start-up technology companies, S-Tech offers Tech-Start, an insurance product specifically designed for their needs. “Technology start-ups like ei Technologies are obviously developing something very new and insurance companies
are, by their very nature, cautious organisations,” says S-Tech’s David Lowe. “It’s our job therefore to portray, in layman’s terms, what a business needs to insure so they can feel comfortable with their exposure. We’re therefore delighted to show our support for new technology by sponsoring the Start-Up Zone. “The Start-Up Zone is set to be much bigger this year. This conference is about the Future of Wireless and these new companies are the future,” says Cambridge Wireless CEO Soraya Jones, “I’m therefore delighted that S-Tech has kindly agreed to sponsor the Start-Up Zone again and help us make it bigger and even better.”
The 5th Future of Wireless International Conference takes place in July at The Møller Centre and includes keynote presentations from O2/Telefonica UK, Microsoft Research, ARM, Accenture, Qualcomm Atheros, MediaTek, PWC, Transport for London and the BBC.
