Real-time Web filtering provides a safe online environment that protects staff, the company and its IT infrastructure
Bloxx, the innovator in Web and email content filtering, today announced that JJB Sports is using Bloxx Web filtering to proactively manage and report on the Web browsing activity of over 6,000 employees accessing the Internet from over 2,000 client devices across multiple locations in the UK, including its Head Office, Support Centre and in store Point-of-Sales devices and workstations.

The company moved its Web filtering from Bluecoat appliance running Websense filtering software, a licensed solution based on the number of Internet users, to a Bloxx Web filtering appliance - with no license fees or cost-per-user charges - which was significantly more cost-effective for the company. Now a Bloxx 1750W Web Filter, which utilises Bloxx’s patent-pending Tru-View Technology, analyses and categorises Web pages in real-time, delivering control, management and reporting of all Internet access at the company.
Dan Highton, Network Manager at JJB Sports explains, “Bloxx Web Filtering delivers all the functionality and protection an organisation such as JJB Sports demands. We now have more functionality in an easy-to-use Web Filter that suits our network infrastructure, was cheaper to buy and is easier to operate, manage and maintain."
“The purchase cost for the Bloxx appliance for three years was less than the Websense renewal would have been for one year. This has enabled us to reduce our Web filtering costs by over 66%, freeing up budget that can be used for other IT projects. We have also further reduced our total cost of ownership as administering the Bloxx Web Filter is simple and straightforward allowing us to save valuable IT time and resources,” adds Highton.
JJB maintain different levels of Internet access dependent on a user’s requirements that allows the company to protect its staff from the potential dangers of the Internet and maximise staff productivity by blocking categories that are not considered a requirement for their job.
“We have various Acceptable Use Policies in place that allow our staff to access the Internet dependent on their needs. We offer more relaxed Internet restrictions at lunchtime to allow staff to use the Internet for personal requirements. The comprehensive Bloxx Web Reporting application enables us to understand Internet usage at the company, investigate attempted Internet abuse, address staff productivity concerns and protect the reputation of the company,” concludes Highton.
