January 26th 2011, Berkeley, CA - Adax, an industry leader in high-performance signaling infrastructure, has announced the availability of the Adax Gateway (AdaxGW) on the Adax PacketRunner (APR) ATCA intelligent carrier blade providing a high-performance and cost-effective ATCA solution for interworking legacy SS7 and ATM connections to All-IP Networks.

ATCA is designed to eliminate the high costs and slow time to market associated with traditional proprietary-based telecommunications platforms and the Adax PacketRunner has been designed to take full advantage of the ATCA standard providing a high-throughput, totally scalable, modular based system. It is a fantastic fit for the Adax Signaling Gateway reducing I/O bottlenecks and delivering significant performance improvements that are up to 6 times faster than cPCI-based systems.

The AdaxGW is a single software image configurable and reconfigurable to meet any requirement for today’s emerging All-IP Network. It supports legacy SS7 connections to any SIGTRAN Ethernet connection, and I-TDM and ATM-IP interworking delivers VoIP for Access Concentration with Media Conversion, providing a solid foundation for user and control plane applications.

SS7 to SIGTRAN signaling is a must in today’s emerging All-IP network and legacy support for SS7 LSL, Annex A and ATM HSL connections to SIGTRAN/IP enables full value to be extracted from existing equipment. The AdaxGW in SG mode is a Highly-Available Signaling Gateway supporting SUA, M3UA, M2PA, M2UA and SCTP which provides access to any SIGTRAN-enabled network.

Access Concentrators require both control and user plane services and the AdaxGW in MC mode adds user plane services for Media Conversion. The Adax APR hosts all the necessary hardware I/O; PktAMC, ATM4-AMC and HDC3-AMC; and interworking protocols providing the foundation for customers to add their own User Plane application software and protocols for Call Control etc.  The APR blade and PktAMC both support packet-processing-intensive applications such as RTP and the ATM4 provides ATM-IP interworking as well as AAL5 signaling termination.  UDP/IP packets are sent to the PktAMC for RTP processing and on to the IP network. The HDC3-AMC provides I-TDM interworking along with SS7 LSLs, Annex A and ATM T1/E1 High Speed Links.

"The AdaxGW Signaling Gateway and Media Convertor with the Adax PacketRunner ATCA blade and AMC modules delivers the perfect foundation for I/O and compute-intensive applications for connecting traditional SS7 and ATM with the new All-IP networks," said Dr. Barry Zuckerman, President of Adax, Inc. "Deploying the Adax Gateway on an ATCA blade provides customers with even greater flexibility and protection of investment for SS7, ATM and IP Control and User Plane applications as they will benefit from fast deployment of revenue generating services and reduced development costs."

The flexible architecture of the Adax PacketRunner fulfils ATCA’s promise of horizontal expansion at a reduced cost. In a redundantly designed system, cards and blades may be added, removed, and re-allocated with no loss of service and with the interworking capabilities of the AdaxGW network operators are able to retain the value of their initial CAPEX investment well into the future.
