Arqiva, the communications infrastructure and media services company, has provided US based Media One Services with all the event management and transmission services for all 20 live global feeds that formed the backbone of a unique 24 hour webcast called ‘24 Hours of Reality’.
This worldwide event focused attention on the reality of climate change through 24 live one hour presentations from 24 locations over the course of 24 hours. Starting in Mexico City on September 14th at 7pm Central Time and moving east to west through every time zone, this remarkable event was arranged by the Climate Reality Project, founded and chaired by Al Gore, Nobel Laureate and former Vice President of the United States.
Richard Costello, VP General Manger, Media One Services, said: “The live feeds were absolutely fundamental to the success of ‘24 Hours of Reality’ - so it was crucial they were co-ordinated and delivered at time slots within the 24 hour show. When looking for a transmission partner to take on this enormous responsibility Arqiva’s international infrastructure and proven reputation for regularly delivering high-profile live feeds for major broadcasters all around the world made them the obvious choice. They played a pivotal role in successfully delivering this important event to a global audience of 8.6 million viewers during the 24 hour period.”
Arqiva was fully responsible for providing and co-ordinating all of the satellite news gathering (SNG), remote satellite uplinks, satellite capacity and teleport services needed to deliver the live feeds from 20 global locations to the production centre at Manhattan Center Studios in New York. Arqiva’s own SNG fleet was deployed to some locations and the company’s extensive satellite capacity carried most of the feeds for downlink at their Los Angeles, Washington DC and London teleports. From here Arqiva onpassed the live feeds via terrestrial fibre to the Manhattan Center Studios for webcasting.
Barrie Woolston, Commercial Sales Director, Broadcast & Media at Arqiva, said: “Arqiva has all the infrastructure, resources and expertise to coordinate this worldwide and time critical event. Our global satellite coverage routinely incorporates most of the event's locations which were as geographically diverse as Alaska, Brazil, China, South Africa and New Zealand. Our ability to deploy so many of the required assets in-house, and our experience of working with trusted third parties around the world, significantly improves efficiency and effectiveness throughout the transmission chain. Arqiva is very proud to have played such a central role in this extraordinary event.”
