Kevin Turner Is Named to CIO Magazine’s Hall of Fame

Microsoft Corp. Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner has been named to CIO magazine’s CIO Hall of Fame. Turner and 19 other honorees were selected for their leadership in the chief information officer (CIO) community and contributions to the advancement of the profession.
“As we celebrate 20 years of providing IT executives with the strategies and best practices to perform their jobs effectively, it makes sense to honor the elite CIOs who have been pioneers in breaking new ground in the use of technology in business,” said Abbie Lundberg, editor in chief of CIO magazine.
“I am honored to be part of such an esteemed group of technology and business leaders,” said Turner. “In my past position as CIO at Wal-Mart and in my current role at Microsoft, I have always valued the pivotal role CIOs play in delivering high-impact results that truly advance the business.”
As chief operating officer, Turner is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of Microsoft’s worldwide sales, marketing and services organization. He leads a global organization comprising more than 38,000 employees, including field sales and marketing professionals. Before joining Microsoft, Turner spent nearly 20 years at Wal-Mart Stores Inc., most recently as president and chief executive officer of Sam’s Club. Before that at Wal-Mart, Turner spent 13 years in the IT department, rising to the level of executive vice president and chief information officer, overseeing the company’s worldwide information systems and IT operations.
In 1995, at age 29, Turner became the youngest corporate officer ever named at Wal-Mart. In 1997 he received the first Sam M. Walton Entrepreneur of the Year Award for his accomplishments.
