ip.access launches nano3G™ picocell
« Posted: February 09, 2009, 07:22:59 PM »

Cambridge, 9 February 2009 – ip.access (www.ipaccess.com), the leading developer of in-building wireless picocell and femtocell solutions, today announces the launch of the nano3G picocell, a next-generation 3G Access Point that transforms the provision of 3G coverage in offices, shops and other hard-to-reach places.

Using nano3G, mobile operators around the world can help business customers make better use of 3G at work. The nano3G provides a high quality 3G signal indoors that improves service quality on any 3G handset. It can be installed quickly and cost-effectively using Power over Ethernet and an existing Internet connection to backhaul the mobile network traffic.

“Knowledge workers expect and demand reliable 3G coverage and performance for accessing the Internet from their smartphones, HSPA-enabled laptops and other 3G devices, whether in the office or outdoors,” said Stephen Mallinson, CEO at ip.access. “However, delivering high-quality 3G coverage indoors is a difficult challenge for operators, as the windows and walls of office buildings absorb much of the radio energy transmitted by the outdoor network before it can reach the place where it’s needed.”

The new nano3G picocell solves this problem, delivering improved quality for voice calls as well as high-speed connectivity for access to the Internet, email and other enterprise applications on mobile devices. nano3G shares a common architecture and network integration with ip.access’ award-winning Oyster 3G™ femtocell, but has higher capacity and a larger coverage area, supporting eight simultaneous users over a range of up to 200 metres.

ip.access is the industry’s leading picocell vendor. Its nanoGSM 2G solution is already the world’s most deployed picocell, and is used by operators across the globe to deliver improved 2G in-building coverage for enterprise customers. nano3G extends these benefits to 3G networks, enabling mobile operators to provide excellent service quality to important business customers even in places where in-building coverage is impaired. Business subscribers can use their mobile phones and other 3G devices to their full potential, eliminating a major cause of churn for the operator.

“nano3G will revolutionise the use of 3G in offices, while at the same time freeing up capacity in the macro network to deliver better services to outdoor users,” concluded Mr. Mallinson.
