- Allows people to remix their digital world and powers the next era of the online video market -
London, UK: Masher, an intuitive website that allows users to create online videos by ‘mashing’ together different content and then share with friends, has today announced its launch. Originally developed by BBC Motion Gallery, the video archive sales operation from BBC Worldwide, the video editing prototype application was acquired in July 2008 by a consortium of private investors.
Masher is a web-based application that allows users to create a video in minutes by ‘mashing’ together different videos, photos, music, and digital effects. Users can then share their video mash instantly with their friends by publishing it straight to social network sites such as Facebook and MySpace or by emailing them. With Masher, users have free access to a collection of generic clips from the BBC archive and other sponsors, so they don’t even need any content of their own to start making videos.
Masher is suitable for a wide variety of audiences, ranging from families wanting to create videos of their children, holidays or special occasions, through to young creatives wanting to be the next big film director. The creative possibilities with Masher are endless.
James Clifton, COO of Masher comments:
“Masher now makes online video accessible to the majority of Internet users. A lot of people watch videos online but few create and upload videos, primarily because they don’t know how. Masher changes that by making creating and sharing videos online really easy.
Many people take videos clips using their mobile phone or digital camera but don’t know how to share those clips with friends online. With Masher you can have your videos and photos all together in one place, so now instead of just having a photo album to show off your holiday or celebrate a night out, you can create short video to share with all your friends.
What’s more, Masher comes with lots of great videos from partners including BBC Motion Gallery, so you don’t even have to upload your own content to make a video. This means, for example, that instead of sending an e-card to your friends this Christmas you can mash together different festive clips of Santa, flying reindeers and more, to create a personalised video to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.”
