Try to make a space for empty hangers, a basket works well. This is a time saver on wash day. For kids rooms, allow them to help. They know what they do and don't play with. Discard items that are broke or have missing pieces. Baskets, boxes, and clear totes work well for toy closets, and come in a variety of sizes. Keep toys and accessories together.
