Too Many IT Managers Still Unmotivated To Cut Power Bills

Corporate green policies fail to encourage change within UK enterprises

London, UK – March 13, 2008 – A worrying proportion of UK IT managers are still not feeling the pressure to reduce corporate power consumption and carbon emissions, according to new research from 1E, the specialist UK based provider of PC power management software for Windows environments.

The survey, commissioned by 1E, of 100 IT managers from enterprise organisations revealed that, despite growing pressure from business leaders, internal CSR teams and government legislation, around one third of respondents still feel zero pressure to reduce power consumption.

These findings are all the more surprising given that almost 90 per cent of respondents also claim to be aware of their employer’s broader environment policy.  The fact that only 23% of IT managers surveyed by 1E have direct ownership of their corporate power bills explains this trend.

“Given the growing focus on environmental topics, it’s genuinely concerning to see that significant proportion of IT managers from large UK organisations still aren’t feeling serious pressure to minimise power consumption from their technology infrastructure,” comments Simon Francis, VP for  Energy Solutions at 1E.  “This is especially surprising given the increasing availability of sophisticated PC power management solutions such as our own award-winning NightWatchman offering,” he adds.

“As a pioneer in the field of PC power management, 1E has always believed that only by giving IT teams direct ownership of corporate power bills, will they feel truly empowered to address this globally-important issue.  The findings of our latest research survey support this view,” comments Francis.

The NightWatchman solution from 1E addresses the challenge of shutting down PCs in a large network where users require different settings for working and out-of-office hours.  Now in its fifth generation, NightWatchman uses extremely reliable and proven technology to enable centralised, scheduled shut down of PCs, enabling organisations to enforce corporate energy saving schemes.  It saves an average of £43 per PC per annum and typically delivers ROI within three to six months.
