Summit Tech Unveils the Upgraded Connected Car
« Posted: February 24, 2016, 12:54:46 PM »

Mobile World Congress, Barcelona– Feb 24 2016 – Summit Tech today launched the upgraded connected car at Mobile World Congress with new features including the GSMA’s Enriched Calling for seamless crystal-clear voice and data connectivity. The first Voice over LTE (VoLTE)/Rich Communication Services (RCS) capable Connected Car was developed in 2015 with Alcatel-Lucent. Packed with a truckload of features into a pint-sized car, the Fiat 500, earned it the label: the “people’s” Connected Car.

With over 40 VoLTE deployments globally, operators are gearing up for new and innovative ways to leverage their IMS network. Most connected cars today generally offer LTE data connectivity and Summit Tech demonstrates how VoLTE and RCS enhances the Connected Car to become an independent mobile device which can be dynamically assigned and linked to existing IMS smartphone users.

Summit Tech will demonstrate real-world example of the power of VoLTE/RCS-based vehicles that can be applied to use cases such as connected homes, smart meters, car washes and drive-thru restaurants. The user experience within the connected car goes beyond just Bluetooth functionality. An in-dash touch screen and a Heads-Up Display (HUD) gives users safer functionalities and greater interactivity – including mobile payments. Occupants of Summit Tech’s Connected Car benefit from an array of IP communication services including video calling and messaging.

The Call Hand-over functionality between a smartphone and a connected car has been upgraded to handle multiple identities. This benefits on-the road-service providers such as electricians, vehicle repairmen etc. Businesses who have a central phone number can now have their number directly assigned to their connected vehicles rather than a fixed-line back at the office for added functionality and connectivity.

Summit Tech has also developed the technology that automatically activates bodycams worn by law enforcement or emergency responders as soon as they exit a connected vehicle. Bodycams can transmit live video streams, via RCS VideoShare, to a headquarters or a central emergency unit who can monitor a situation and respond effectively in a crisis.

“There’s a range of upgrades to the Connected Car – put simply, we have created a powerful smartphone on wheels!” commented Alido Di Giovanni, President of Summit Tech. “The industry does not need any more fragmentation across voice, messaging and data systems. Closed systems are not helpful to anyone’s progress. Operators can finally be at the heart of Connected Cars and offer a scalable solution with more choice. Consumers can benefit from a system that works seamlessly across car manufacturers, operating systems and carrier networks. The possibilities are endless.”
