20 Years of success for ECOC Exhibition!
« Posted: October 21, 2015, 12:27:36 PM »

Feria Valencia was the perfect host for the 2015 ECOC Exhibition

London 21st October 2015: Nexus Business Media Ltd, organiser of the ECOC (European Conference on Optical Communications) 2015 exhibition, has today announced that the 20th ECOC Exhibition, held at the Feria Valencia in Spain, was a resounding success. The event attracted over 300 exhibitors and almost 5,500 visitors from 74 countries, with 85% of those coming from outside the host nation.

This year’s event provided the showcase for a number of exclusive industry announcements including Finisar which revealed it has launched the world’s first 100G QSFP28 SWDM4 Module and Coherent Solutions which chose this year’s exhibition to release details of its eagerly awaited IQTransmitter.

It also saw a multitude of exciting exhibition stands including the offering from ZTT, a leading global manufacturer of cable systems, which flew its stand in from China especially for its first appearance at the show. The stand housed a fully working model, complete with a new energy system (including wind turbines and solar panel) and an FTTx solution which provides fibre to the home and antenna (FTTH and FTTA).

VietFiber, which makes FO passive products including patchcord, pigtails, connectors and adaptors, was also a first time exhibitor and travelled with its team all the way from Vietnam. International Sales Manager Alessio Pifferi, talking about their first experience of ECOC, said: “Europe has become our main market focus, alongside the US, so we made the decision to exhibit at Europe’s largest optical communications event.”

“We pride ourselves on building long-term customer relationships and really enjoyed meeting a lot of distributors at the show. We are already looking at the possibility of attending ECOC 2016 in Dusseldorf to get ourselves firmly established within the optic community.”

The hugely successful Market Focus was once again the centre-piece of the exhibition with a record number of visitors flocking to hear presentations from industry leading organisations and individuals, with over 2,200 people attending the sessions across the three days. Jeff Demain from Intel delivered his presentation to a full auditorium and discussed what is driving the growth within Cloud Service Providers and what optics must do to be successful and enable the future of the cloud. Demain said after his market focus session, “Market focus gives us our ability to share our perspective of the industry, but most importantly, also gets everyone into that conversation.”

The crowds were also drawn to Daryl Inniss from Ovum, who not only filled the seats within Market Focus, but attracted visitors to stand, watch and listen to his presentation in which he identified the advantages of silicon photonics and the impact on the optical communications market.

Per Hansen from OE also spoke to a capacity crowd about advanced encoding formats and how they are playing a huge role in growing the capacity and reach of fibre optic networks. In addition to this he also discussed the Discrete Multi-Tone (DMT) demonstrations and how they will revolutionise 100G and 400G connectivity.

Viavi and Lumentum, formerly JDSU, both exhibited at ECOC for the first time under their new companies. Viavi was showcasing its software and hardware platforms and instruments at the event was delighted with the interest shown in the company. Solutions Marketing Manager Elwyn Shelley said: “It’s been great to be at ECOC in Valencia as the new company, Viavi Solutions, (formerly JDSU) to show our cutting-edge solutions for 400G, 25G test and our world-first modular variable bandwidth tuneable filter. ECOC always attracts a high calibre of delegates and we’re already looking forward to supporting the event in Dusseldorf next year.”

Beverley Lucas, Group Event Manager for Nexus Business Media, which organizes ECOC, added: “The feedback from both the visitors and exhibitors has been extremely positive. It’s especially pleasing to hear that over 90% of visitors would recommend the event to their colleagues and that 85% of exhibitors felt that their time at the event was successful.”

The ECOC 2016 Exhibition will be held in Dusseldorf, Germany from 19-21st September. Please see www.ecocexhibition.com for the 2015 show highlights and further details on 2016.
