Event to showcase new regulatory developments in NGA networks and hot topics such as g.fast, vectoring and Fiber to the Distribution Point

Leiden, 29 May 2012 – TNO’s annual DSL Seminar, Europe’s leading DSL event, due to take place in the Netherlands next week, will bring together for the fourth consecutive year experts from the regulatory world, plus operators, service providers and vendors. Participants will gather to discuss the latest developments in the DSL arena with highlights including the trends in R&D such as vectoring, g.fast and Fiber to the Distribution Point.

Co-hosted by global industry body the Broadband Forum, the event already has over 20 operators and regulators who have confirmed their participation, providing a unique opportunity to meet and hear from the experiences of operators and vendors across many countries. The seminar also boasts a host of sponsors from the equipment manufacturing and R&D world, including Ikanos, Alcatel-Lucent, Adtran, Aware, Huawei, Positron, AVM, Telebyte, Iskratel and Assia, many of them pioneers in the field of DSL, VDSL2 and ADSL.

The TNO DSL seminar 2012 opens with a session on Policy and Regulatory aspects of FTTx rollout, including a contribution from BEREC (Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications). Operator speaker highlights include a UK standards update from Kevin Foster of BT and a presentation on improving bitrates, stability and customer experience in TDC’s DSL network by Keld Skov, plus experiences from Poland’s Piotr Meus (Orange Labs Poland) on QoS/QoE on VDSL2, plus SRA and G.INP field trial results. Belgacom’s Kurt Coulier will talk on VDSL2 and crosstalk in the Belgacom Network. Speakers from vendors and TNO will also discuss the Future of DSL and present information on developments in g.fast and Fiber to the Distribution Point. Delegates will be updated on the progress of vectoring in real world deployments, with news expected from both lab and field testing and deployment.

Senior Consultant at TNO, Teun van der Veen, says: “This year’s TNO DSL Seminar promises to be our best yet. It has grown enormously since our first seminar and is now the premier event in DSL in the European arena and increasingly attracting speakers and delegates from all corners of the globe. We have leveraged the growing interest in what DSL has to offer with our most exciting, content-rich programme to date.”

Speakers from many countries and a wide range of organisations are counted among the line-up of industry heavy-hitters who will be speaking at the event. Robin Mersh will chair the European Policy and Regulation session on the first day and will speak on behalf of the Broadband Forum, giving an overview of the industry from a global perspective. Other contributors include senior players from many countries including Denmark, Belgium, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands and the UK, plus industry bodies such as BEREC, KPN, and Delft University.

Live demonstrations on topics such as line diagnosis, g.fast and network planning and case studies from eight operators, three regulators, and leading industry companies will be presented during the course of the three-day event. Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to network and exchange experiences and ideas with technology providers and telecom operators showcasing significant advancements in the DSL space.

The event will take place at the Van der Valk Hotel in Leiden on 4-6 June 2012. To view the full event programme and register for the TNO-DSL Seminar, please visit www.tno.nl/dslseminar or email [email protected].
