RealVNC's Mobile Solution chosen by Cybercom for new generation of automotive technology

VNC® Mobile Solution for Automotive now offers Cybercom customers advanced mobile device access from in-vehicle systems

16 February 2010: RealVNC announced today that Cybercom is the latest company to support VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive, specifically targeted to enable automotive manufacturers and equipment suppliers to provide remote control and access to mobile devices directly from in-vehicle telematics and infotainment systems.

Any mobile device entering the vehicle can be automatically detected, accessed and controlled from the vehicle’s touch-screen or fixed input devices.  VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive is an OEM package that can support a range of in-vehicle embedded operating systems, including Linux, Windows Automotive, CE, QNX, Qt, Android and other proprietary operating systems.  Multiple mobile platforms are supported including Windows Mobile, Symbian and Blackberry, with development versions for iPhone, Android, Linux Mobile and Palm Pre, providing comprehensive coverage for all leading mobile devices from a single solution.

“VNC Mobile Solution for Automotive provides us with an excellent platform to deliver market-leading mobile remote control technology. Complementing our automotive App store offer, it gives our major automotive customers several new ways of setting up their future business model within the infotainment area,“ said Håkan Fernström, Head of Automotive Division Cybercom.  “Having looked at many discrete alternatives addressing a particular operating system or a small selection of mobile handsets, we are extremely pleased to have found RealVNC, providing a single cross-platform solution capable of replacing numerous legacy point solutions.”

Tom Blackie, Vice President Mobile of RealVNC added, “The automotive sector is strategically important and we have identified a compelling proposition for cross-platform embedded mobile remote control.  We are delighted to establish this agreement with Cybercom, a leading high-tech consultancy with a global footprint and reach into all the major automotive suppliers and manufacturers.  We are certain this will further aid the adoption of VNC throughout the automotive industry that is actively sourcing such solutions.”

The advantage for car manufacturers and equipment suppliers is that it removes  the burden of keeping the car systems up to date with compatibility for multiple new mobile devices and operating systems – it’s all done by using VNC to provide a single common device independent communications protocol.  VNC takes care of the hard work of keeping the Servers (the software running on the mobile device) current for all new emerging devices and operating systems.
