Doctor-led education resource for sixth-formers taking their first steps towards a career in medicine
London, 27 March 2008 – OnExamination.com today launches the UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) preparation course.
Aimed at sixth-form students taking UKCAT, this new resource seeks to prepare students for the key elements of this medical school entrance test. The exam has been adopted by the majority of UK medical and dental schools as part of the selection process.
OnExamination.com's online resource provides practice question material, advice and strategies to help candidates prepare for this online exam which tests skills in communication, awareness and reasoning.
UKCAT is a way of differentiating between A grade students but will hopefully be instrumental in reducing drop out rates amongst students whilst producing better prepared trainee doctors and dentists.
The use of such testing may also help eliminate the general public's misconception that students are accepted on grounds of social economic background by placing some emphasis on personality rather than academic achievements alone.
The comprehensive online UKCAT revision course consists of:
• over 200 practice question items
• a performance-feedback indicator
• access to current health news digest
• a personalised learning journal to allow candidates to record progress
Dr Stephen Davies, Consultant Endocrinologist, University Hospital of Wales and Director of OnExamination comments:
“The number of school leavers applying to UK medical or dental schools is increasing each year, and as the number of applications coming in rises, university admissions tutors must rely more and more on entrance exams such as the UKCAT to distinguish top candidates.”
“These exams are designed to test candidates’ overall suitability to study and practice medicine, making preparation for UKCAT far from straightforward for many A-level students. Without specific academic material to master, preparation becomes more challenging, and guided interactive courses that follow the UKCAT style and format are critical to enable students to accurately represent their abilities and potential on exam day.”
