10 Dec 2012, London - The London Internet Exchange (LINX) has successfully completed the final phase of its network refresh project including the installation of a full LINX PoP using co-location facilities provided by global data centre and managed ICT services provider Telehouse.

As part of a future growth plan, LINX redeveloped its networks across the Telehouse sites to allow for expected growth and increased demand in network capacity. This comes almost 18 years after the first LINX peering switch was located at Telehouse North.

LINX is now running with a doubled capacity of 9.6TB, creating more growth and demand from within Telehouse to fill this now the upgrade has been completed. With a large number of LINX’s 430 members situated at Telehouse, Telehouse forms a core part of LINX’s operational strategy.

The upgrade involved the deployment of two separate high-performance Ethernet switching platforms running on Extreme Networks and Juniper, to provide an extra level of fault-tolerance. The switches were implemented across ten locations throughout the UK at a stage where the old network was reaching capacity and were installed in time for the London 2012 Olympics.

Derek Cobb, CTO at LINX commented: “Telehouse have helped us to increase our network growth. They were resourceful when we needed additional power to the suite and helpful when difficult last-minute situations arose.

“Telehouse has been there with LINX since the very beginning and continue to be vitally important. The recent major upgrades of the LINX PoPs at Telehouse North, East and West are testament to the strength of this relationship.”

Michelle Reid, Sales and Marketing Director at Telehouse comments on the pivotal project, “We are proud to facilitate this major step that LINX has taken to grow the network capacity in London and beyond. Our long standing relationship made us a suitable partner in realising this unique project and as we share a similar vision of a more connected society, we hope our customers continue to grow with us to explore the potential of the internet”.
