London, UK, 1st March 2010: Kaseya, a leading provider of automated systems management software, today announced that Liverpool Women’s NHS Trust has expanded its use of the Kaseya IT Automation platform to support 2,000 PCs for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, following the successful use of the platform at the Trust’s Liverpool Women’s Hospital. The Trust’s IT team will use the platform to manage, monitor and support over 3,000 networked machines to ensure hospital staff have uninterrupted access to resources such as patient information, records and online services.
Alder Hey is a campus hospital that is over 100 years old, with PCs spread across multiple buildings and sites. Using the Kaseya platform, the Trust’s IT technicians will centralise IT support services for Alder Hey’s 2,000 desktop PCs and laptops and monitor and manage the infrastructure through a single integrated web-based interface. IT tasks and procedures such as patch management, asset management and network upgrades will be planned, automated and analysed remotely, so they are completed without adversely impacting day-to-day operations.
The Children’s Hospital also operates up to 80 community clinics per week, dispersed across the county, all of which require their own IT. Previously, auditing and updating across the clinic network was an arduous task involving travel to every machine, but using Kaseya the IT team can remotely review all hardware and software on its network, reducing the time taken to conduct audits from weeks to minutes.
The Kaseya IT automation platform will play a key role in helping the Hospital comply with the hardware audits demanded by the NHS Infrastructure Maturity Model, which requires that hospitals know the location and status of all IT equipment and must report on this. Dr Zafar Chaudry, Chief Information Officer at Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust and Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, explains:
“With so many PCs spread throughout the multiple hospital buildings, simply locating the machines used to be an issue. Using the platform’s Discovery and Inventory functionality, we can get a much better handle on what equipment we have onsite and better manage our repair and replacement schedule as well as report back to the NHS.”
“The improved efficiency provided by the automation platform has effectively enabled us to do more with less. We have a dramatically improved IT toolset that allows us to manage the full IT estate in a fraction of the time, but with the same number of staff, who can also perform operations that were not physically possible, such as full-scale patch rollouts in a matter of minutes,” he adds.
Phil Sansom, VP UK Sales, Kaseya, comments: “The initial Kaseya deployment at Liverpool Women’s Hospital significantly improved the level of service that the Trust could provide its users as engineers respond to problems in more strategic and efficient ways. To replicate this at Alder Hey not only means an even better service for patients, but also a more streamlined and cost effective IT function for the whole Trust.”
