How to Get Targeted Traffic: The Top Five Myths

Myth #1: Search engines are the answer. There seems to be a way of thinking on the Internet that says search engines are the be-all of website marketing. In my opinion, search engines are just one single way of getting traffic. And although they can send you high volumes of targeted traffic, the main problem is that you cannot rely on this source of traffic.

You can quite easily waste many, many hours of your life trying to work out how the search engines rank your website. I know if you are like me you probably get frustrated when you go onto the search engines and see that your ranking has dropped substantially. You can quite easily go round and round in circles wasting time trying to work out how the search engines work when really your time might be better spent actually going out and getting the targeted traffic directly.

Myth #2: It's impossible. I know a lot of people ask me is it really possible to get targeted traffic or is the actual existence of it a myth in itself. Well it is not impossible to get targeted traffic.

There are lots of ways that you can to do this including exchanging links, writing articles, giving away free reports doing a list exchange where you get featured on another person's list. Doing an actual article swap where you write an article for somebody else's web site and they write one for your website. So it is a myth that getting targeted traffic is impossible. It is not impossible but it can be difficult particularly if you don't know what you are doing.

Myth #3: Lots of traffic is the answer. The very fact that you are reading this article means that you realize the importance of targeted traffic. But I've got to tell you that just getting lots of traffic on its own is not the answer in most cases to your website's problems.

What about if you could actually convert more people that are already finding your web site into buyers. Maybe this would be a better use of your time but more importantly people get caught up in the idea that traffic of any kind is what is required whereas in reality the traffic needs to be highly targeted.

Myth #4: You have to pay for it. There are lots of cool tools and websites online now where you can get traffic almost instantly in as little as fifteen minutes and for just a few cents or dollars.

But this doesn't mean that you need to pay for traffic into your web site. There is so many better ways to get visitors into your site and I've learned a lot of these over the ten years that I have been online. But this leads me neatly onto Myth #5.

Myth #5: There are no new ways to do traffic generation. There seems to be a mindset that says there are no new ways to actually get traffic into your website and it is all about search engines and links. I used to think the same way until I found out about social book marking. Social book marking is an excellent way to get traffic and you can get it almost overnight.
