10 Common Things We Never Really Knew What They Are For

We go through our daily lives and take many things for granted not really knowing, questioning or understanding the purpose or functionality of many things that we, in fact, use every single day. While there are many who do not bother but there are others who really wonder at their existence. Here are those 10 things that are so common but their uses unknown.

 

1. Extra Eyelets On Sneakers




These are nothing but an extra hole for the shoelaces which are given to actually enable us to tie our shoelaces in a better way to avoid getting blisters. This was given to actually create heel lock which secures the ankle in one place thereby preventing the friction and further blistering.

 
2. The Cylindrical Structure Attached To A Laptop Cable



Known as a Ferrite bead, it contains actually a chunk of material which is of magnetic nature. The cylindrical casing acts as a filter and also an insulator to reduce noises of high-frequency. It also helps in preventing the cable from acting as the receiver or transmitter of radio waves as long wires can also work as an antenna.

3. The Loop On A Shirt



Many of you must have seen that there is a small loop located on the back side of shirts. That is there for a purpose. It is actually an accessory to help you hang your shirt or fasten a tie.


4. The Blue Portion Of An Eraser



When we were in school, most of us believed that the blue side of an eraser is supposed to erase the pen marks. However, the blue part was meant to brush off the dirt left behind after using the pink part. Since people failed to comprehend this function of the blue part so the manufacturers later started to promote the blue part as pen eraser only.

5. Little Gaps In Windows Of A Plane



The tiny holes that you see at the bottom of the windows of planes are actually there to save your life. They are there to prevent breakage of the window panels and maintains a balance of inner and outer pressure in the window panels.

 
6. A Hole In A Spaghetti Spoon



The hole inside a spaghetti spoon is there to help us measure a specific portion of spaghetti. The amount of spaghetti that fits in that hole is actually equivalent to one serving.

7. A Smaller Pocket Within The Bigger Pocket Of Your Jeans


 
A very well recognizable thing in your jeans, the smaller pocket inside the bigger pocket of your jeans was actually invented to carry pocket watch.


8. An Additional Piece Of Material Accompanying New Clothes



This idea was of manufacturers to help the customer check the effects of detergents on material which can help them prevent damages like colour bleeding, shrinking etc. That could also be used as the sample cloth to buy matching material if in case anyone wants another garment to be stitched matching that. The sample helps to get the exact shade and material as the colour on a roller looks different as compared to that of a stitched garment.

9. An Opening In The Highest Point Of A Pen Top



The reason behind having an opening in the cap of the pen is to prevent choking if in case someone swallows the pen top while they are nibbling on their pen.

 

10.The Rivets On The Pockets Of Jeans




The rivets given on the trousers and jeans prevent them from getting wear and tear or getting damaged soon. The jeans after rough use can tear off easily at the seams but rivets help in keeping the fabric from getting torn at the seams.
