Web hosting specialist, Webfusion, has announced it has been accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). ICANN is the governing body for generic top-level domains including .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .tel, .mobi and .name.
Webfusion is one of just over 950 registrars from around the world who meet the requirements of ICANN accreditation. As an ICANN accredited registrar, Webfusion has a duty to uphold the requirements of the Registration Accreditation Agreement (RAA) to ensure its customers receive the highest level of service.
The announcement from Webfusion comes shortly after a US-based company, 123 Registration Inc, had its accreditation terminated by ICANN for failure to comply with the RAA or cure the breaches within the time permitted.
Thomas Vollrath, CEO of Webfusion, comments, “We are delighted to become part of the small community of registrars that is accredited by ICANN.
“Over the past 12 months there has been a shift in the focus of customers, who are now looking for better value rather than better price from their web hosting registrar. This accreditation gives assurance to customers that our domain registration products and services provide them with the high value they are looking for. Customers of Webfusion’s sister company 123-reg, which is the UK’s largest domain registrar, can also be assured that the ICANN accreditation will apply to them.
“The recent announcement of another company having its ICANN accreditation revoked demonstrates that the governing body has rigid controls in place to make sure accredited companies continually adhere to their code of conduct. Hopefully this gives even further reassurance to our customers that Webfusion will continue to uphold our commitment to keeping high standards, to ensure we retain our accreditation.”
