Swiss-based Fabless Semiconductor Specialist Cites Perforce’s Branching and Merging Capabilities as the Best of All Products Evaluated

Wokingham (UK), September 11, 2013: Perforce Software today announced that its version management system is now being deployed by u-blox, a Swiss-based fabless semiconductor provider, in association with local Perforce partner EVOCEAN. u-blox chose Perforce for its high reliability, support for distributed teams, extensibility with other systems, high performance and ease of installation. u-blox joins a global Perforce customer base of over 500,000 users in more than 10,000 organisations.

“Perforce met all the stringent criteria we had for selecting our new version management system. Its replica and proxy server gives us exceptional remote site performance at no additional cost,” said Fabio Vesnaver, Manager of Strategic Purchasing and Partnerships at u-blox. “Perforce has the best branching and merging support of all systems we evaluated. Its highly granular permissions-based access gives us excellent control over usage, from branch/repository down to file level. Configuration of permissions and security also met our standards.”

u-blox provides embedded positioning and wireless communication components and services for the consumer, industrial and automotive markets, with R&D centres in seven countries. The company conducts a wide range of R&D projects focusing on RF transceivers, baseband digital signal processing, embedded computing and firmware for both chip and surface-mount module products.

Like many electronics companies, u-blox is under increasing pressure to deliver new products to its customers as rapidly and efficiently as possible. It realised that version management tools can play a vital role in keeping development projects on track, particularly when multiple teams across multiple sites are involved. One of the company’s current priorities is on the roll out of next-generation LTE modem chips and modules.

"Perforce provides us with the performance we need across our very distributed environment. Its ability to handle huge binary assets means we can version any type or size file,” added Vesnaver. "We are impressed at how easy installation has been and how well it integrates with our existing IT environment."

Perforce’s Swiss partner, EVOCEAN, has been involved throughout the implementation. Vesnaver added, "EVOCEAN has been very helpful, giving us on-site support and expertise to ensure that deployment of the new version management system has been rapid and efficient.”
