NID designed for revenue-boosting and increased uptime and reliability while guaranteeing SLA requirements
Singapore - June 22, 2011 - Transition Networks Inc., the fiber access technology expert, a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-GM: JCS), is unveiling for the first time in Asia its newest Network Interface Device (NID) at CommunicAsia this week.
The S3240 is specifically designed to help telecoms and cable providers generate and preserve revenues when delivering intelligent Ethernet services. With this announcement, Transition Networks expands its carrier class network product portfolio which enables service providers to increase uptime and reliability while guaranteeing Service Level Agreement (SLA) requirements.
With the growing demand for Ethernet services, the new S3240 enables service providers to offer tiered services with end-to-end Service Level Agreements (SLAs), while increasing customer satisfaction and keeping capital expenses (CapEx) to a minimum. The S3240 creates a clear demarcation point between the provider and the customer network or in carrier-to-carrier handoffs.
“Customers continue to put more demands on service providers for faster and cheaper Ethernet services, but they still require Service Level Agreements (SLAs),” said Patrick Schaber, Director of Marketing at Transition Networks. “The S3240 provides a cost-effective way to meet these demands and address wide-scale deployment challenges while providing the features service providers require such as; Service OAM, Link OAM, Performance Monitoring, C-TAG/S-TAG support, Quality of Service (QoS) bandwidth allocation and remote diagnostics.”
The S3240 ensures rapid detection and isolation of potential service related problems. The ability to have trouble detection and resolution from a central Network Operations Center (NOC), dramatically reduces operating expense (OpEx) and results in a reduced Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), with the end result being a happier customer.
Product Features
The S3240 supports up to 10k jumbo frames and bandwidth allocation to limit upstream and downstream traffic. The S3240 offers complete Ethernet OAM support including IEEE 802.3ah (Link OAM), IEEE 802.1ag (Service OAM), and ITU Y.1731 (Performance Monitoring) to ensure visibility across the entire network.
IEEE 802.1p Quality of Service (QoS) allows service providers to offer different classes of services to customers as well as full VLAN (IEEE 802.1Q) support, including double tagging (Q-in-Q – IEEE 802.1ad). Service providers are able to select the Ethertype of the S-TAG.
The S3240 was designed for SLA-enabled Ethernet services. This feature-rich, intelligent network interface device incorporates E-Line Services for point-to-point or multi point-to-point connectivity between a main office and remote locations. The S3240 incorporates advanced security features like: SSL, SSH, Multi-layer Access Control Lists (ACL), RADIUS, and Management VLANs, to prevent unauthorized access. The S3240 has an automatic failover mechanism in case of a fiber cut with a recovery time of sub 50ms limiting the affect on customer traffic.
The S3240 operates in an extended temperature range of -10C to 65C for backhaul applications using AC or 18-57VDC power redundancy. The S3240 utilizes a fanless design to increase reliability over the products life.
Configuration, management and monitoring of the S3240 can be performed from a web-browser, command line interface (CLI), (via telnet or the console port), or with a third-party SNMP system.
