Toumaz Technology CEO At Mobile Healthcare Industry Summit
« Posted: November 27, 2009, 07:10:35 PM »

Abingdon, United Kingdom, 27th November 2009 – Toumaz Technology Limited, the leading provider of ultra-low power wireless infrastructure for body monitoring solutions and wholly owned subsidiary of Toumaz Holdings (AIM: TMZ.L), today announces that CEO Professor Chris Toumazou FRS will be an invited speaker at Mobile Healthcare Industry Summit 2009, the new industry event for best practice and innovation in global wireless and healthcare convergence (1st – 2nd December 2009, Thistle Marble Arch Hotel, London). Professor Toumazou will be the opening speaker for the “Everything’s Connected Healthcare” track. The presentation, entitled “Medical Body Area Networks (MBANs) as Foundation For End-to-End Patient Care Systems” will be given at 11:50am on Wednesday 2nd December 2009.

Professor Toumazou, director and chief scientist at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London, developed the technology foundation for Toumaz’s pioneering wireless body monitoring system, Sensium™, and was recently named as the winner of the World Technology Award 2009 for Health and Medicine. In his conference address, Professor Toumazou will explore how end-to-end wireless body monitoring systems are allowing healthcare providers to monitor the human body continuously, wirelessly and intelligently and at low-cost, with the robustness and medical compliance normally associated with considerably more expensive capital equipment. Delegates will hear how these new wireless systems are capable of addressing the key challenges in the global healthcare market today, including reducing costs, improving quality of life for patients, and enabling better treatment outcomes.

Mobile Healthcare Industry Summit is a new two-day event developed with support from the Continua Health Alliance, GSMA, mHealth Alliance, international healthcare providers including the NHS, Bluetooth SIG, Mobihealthnews.com and other industry organisations. The keynote presentation will be made by Vodafone Group CEO Vittorio Colao, on the topic of convergence trends in ICT and healthcare. The event will feature four streams and feature over 60 industry leaders from network operators, healthcare providers, (nu-medical) device manufacturers, investors, systems integrators, body networks developers and the sports and wellness sectors who are innovating in the field of mobile healthcare solutions.

In October 2009, Toumaz announced that its Sensium Life Pebble is now CE-marked for sale in the EU. The Life Pebble is a non-intrusive, body-worn wireless vital signs monitor that delivers real-time, high-quality data for healthcare applications. In November, Toumaz announced that it has begun a landmark clinical trial of its Sensium “digital plaster” (“digital patch”) wireless body monitor. The study is being conducted by a specialist clinical research team at Imperial College London and is expected to demonstrate the high quality physiological data that can be continuously acquired by wireless, unobtrusive Sensium-enabled devices. The three-phase trial is taking place at St Mary’s Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Results are expected by the end of the year.
