Weston, FL and Cambridge, UK – 17 May 2011 – Thales, leader in information systems and communications security, announces its payShield 9000 Hardware Security Module (HSM) has won SC Magazine’s award for Best Secure Transaction Solution. The magazine’s annual awards for the European information security industry recognise those vendors at the forefront of innovative security technology delivery.

Thales’s payShield 9000 was acknowledged for its world-leading cryptographic performance and resiliency. Designed specifically to secure card payment systems, Thales’s next generation HSM for payment security systems is a high-performance tamper-resistant security platform that protects cryptographic keys and other sensitive information such as customer PINs and cardholder data.

“Growing transaction volumes, an increase in the amount of data that needs to be protected with the introduction of PCI DSS, and a move from static to dynamic authentication (SDA to DDA) EMV cards require a huge increase in cryptographic processing power, resulting in a massive change in the need for payments card HSMs,” says Franck Greverie, Thales vice president in charge of information technology security activities. “For more than 20 years Thales has been at the forefront of security and payments technology. payShield 9000 further demonstrates our commitment to delivering innovative and high quality security solutions and this has been recognised with this SC Magazine award.”

Thales payment HSMs protect more than 70% of the world’s card payments. payShield 9000 is the first payment HSM to meet the resilience needs of modern data centres with dual power supplies, and once installed can be managed entirely remotely reducing operational costs and the inconvenience of on site management. Its superior cryptographic processing at 1500 transactions per second (TPS) satisfies the ever increasing demand for performance, and its software packages are configured specifically for card issuers or transaction processors meaning they can purchase exactly what they require.
