LONDON, Tuesday 31 May, 2011 – Telmap, the original pioneers in mobile location-based services, today releases the second edition of Telmap Metrics Report, which is released on a quarterly basis, summarizing usage and activity conducted through Telmap based solutions.
Telmap is a world leader in mobile location-based services, providing white-label, fully hosted and managed location-based services to over 26 mobile operators globally. As such, Telmap has a broad perspective and vast knowledge that when viewed collectively can be beneficial to the LBS industry as it represents a large chunk of mobile search, mapping and navigation sessions conducted in the market today.
The report summarizes usage and activity for the first quarter of 2011. In this quarter we see a sharp increase in virtually every metric, when compared with the corresponding quarter last year. This Year-over-Year analysis is important since we know that user behavior with LBS is seasonal, showing a sharp increase during the summer months. This dramatic growth in usage parameters is attributed to the fact that Telmap has more than doubled its user base during 2010 as a result of mass-market business models as well as the strong uptake of Telmap Mobile Location Companion, which facilitates increase in searching, driving and walking by all those users.
iPhone continues to lead as the most popular device for new users. This is aligned with the phenomenal uptake of iPhone in the market in general, but Telmap numbers also show that iPhone users use Telmap Mobile Location Companion more than users on other devices. However, examining new activations shows growth in the number of Android users which mirrors the current industry trend in general. We expect Android to continue to grow and become the leading platform for Telmap within the next few quarters.
