New London Data Centre Can Meet Businesses’ High Capacity Demands

LONDON, UK, 31st March, 2010 – Telehouse, a leading provider of global data centres and managed ICT services, today announced the official opening of Telehouse West, its state-of-the-art £80 million flag ship data centre facility. This move marks the latest evolution of the Telehouse brand, which has also seen the organisation expand into emerging markets such as South Africa and Vietnam. As a result, Telehouse’s global data centre footprint has now reached 119,000m².

The 35th Telehouse data centre worldwide, West will meet the demands of UK businesses for high-capacity data centres, as well as offering connectivity to over 400 ISPs, carriers, operators and Internet Exchanges. Spread over nine floors, five with a ‘localised data centre environment’, the custom-built 19,000m² state-of-the-art facility brings the total power at the company’s London Docklands site to 40MVA. Four redundant HV power systems on separate grids ensure maximum redundancy and reliability levels of 99.999%. Furthermore, an additional 132K primary sub-station is also being built to provide even greater levels of redundancy protection.

“In a recent survey of UK decision makers from some of the country’s top organisations, 89% stated they were keen to secure additional data centre space,” said Michelle Reid, Sales and Marketing Director, Telehouse. “This trend is supported by many analysts who have stated that a lack of capacity in the capital is costing the UK economy millions.”

“Telehouse West offers UK businesses access to the latest services, including KDDI’s global network infrastructure and range of end-to-end services including system integration, network services and ICT consultancy. Businesses will also be able to access a highly secure, resilient connection between the company’s network of global data centre facilities, including London, Paris New York and Los Angeles, through the Global InterLink service.”

Further to providing secure, resilient, data centre services, Telehouse West will help UK businesses achieve their green commitments to the forthcoming Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) legislation. It will do so by deploying a variety of innovative solutions to mitigate the carbon footprint of the building, including exporting waste heat for use in nearby homes and businesses.

“We designed Telehouse West with the forthcoming CRC legislation in mind. The opening of the facility will not only help customers achieve their own green targets by reducing the amount of carbon allowances they will need to purchase, but also enable them to expand their businesses and launch new services as they see fit. We are excited to be the first UK data centre to support local residents by providing them with much needed energy resources to power their homes and businesses.”

“With space at a premium in the capital there has been a high level of interest in new facility. Currently our customer tours of Telehouse West are in high demand as organisations look to secure space in the new facility.” concluded Reid.

Interested parties have been able to keep track of construction on the building using the online portal to: review the latest news, products and services; download industry articles; source technical information; view a diary of construction; watch the site evolve.
