Technosummits Broadband Connect Summit Tackles the Need for Broader Coverage and Faster Networks
London, United Kingdom - 7 June 2010. An industry summit in London will discuss the prospects for next-generation broadband networks. The key theme will be the balance between universal coverage and the need for speed to maintain international economic competitiveness.
The Technosummits Fourth Annual Broadband Connect Summit takes place in London on 24th June 2010.
The June event will centre its debate on the relative importance of universal coverage and access speed as priorities for network operators and service providers in order to satisfy increasing demand from companies and consumers. It will highlight some critical issues surrounding the economics of broadband convergence.
Following the last-minute introduction of the Digital Economy Act at the end of the last parliament, the new coalition government in the United Kingdom recognises the importance of broadband network access for the economy. The issue is how to create the right conditions for the necessary investment in next-generation networks.
The Broadband Connect Summit, now in its fourth year, is attracting key senior executives from telecommunications, internet service provider, cable, satellite, broadcast and media companies across Europe as it offers a more personal and intimate environment to network , exchange ideas and discuss critical industry issues.
Confirmed speakers include representatives of the Broadband Stakeholder Group, BT, Colt Telecoms, Easynet Connect, Kingston Communications, Vodafone, Disney Internet, Enders Analysis Pyramid Research, Telefonica Europe, The Cloud and ETNO.
“Broadband convergence is happening in a much faster pace and operators are still in a quandary on whether and when to upgrade their networks and spend billions on extending high-speed fibre infrastructure to homes and businesses. They obviously want to make sure that these investments are timely and justified in return on investment. There are a lot of questions and this summit hopefully will provide us with some answers,” says Joseph de Villiers, the founder and chief executive of Technosummits.
Dr William Cooper, the founder and chief executive of the convergent communications consultancy informitv, will chair the event. “Next-generation networks will be critically important to the development of digital services and the economy in general. The big question is how far the new coalition government will see next-generation networks as key to the success of the digital economy,” he says. “I am very pleased to have been invited again to chair this summit, involving a great mix of telecommunications operators and service providers, together with government and public sector representatives, to discuss the future digital communications convergence.”
SHOWCASE, a new feature added to this event, will highlight a company in the broadband and telecom sector that addresses some of the technology and business challenges in the industry, bringing its innovation to the fore and delivering products and services to enhance the consumer experience. Part of the showcase will be a video presentation at the in-house cinema, featuring some of their current clients, their future strategies and how they are able to help operators and service providers in finding answers in this digital transformation in the most cost-effective way.
Broadband Connect Summit is one of the premier events in the broadband technology sector, bringing together industry leaders and stakeholders to examine and discuss key issues that face the industry today. It is not a conventional conference or tradeshow but features a unique informal format that ensures the opportunity to discuss, dissect and digest critical issues and presentations.
