Sweden has purchased an enterprise license of VBS2
« Posted: February 06, 2013, 09:40:52 PM »

Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim) is delighted to announce that the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV), on behalf of the Swedish Armed Forces (SwAF), has purchased an enterprise license of VBS2. After six years of employing VBS2 on a smaller scale, the SwAF can now fully leverage game-based capability for training, simulation and development.

Proudly served by BISim since 2006, the Swedish Armed Forces initially employed VBS at the Swedish Land Warfare Center (MSS) and the Swedish Defence International Training Centre (SWEDINT) as a key training component for Combined Arms Training, integration of Live-Virtual Constructive (LVC) exercises with other C2 systems, part of their UN Observer courses, as well as for capability development.

The new Enterprise license is for VBS2 and also VBS2 Lite, which is a limited version for remote training on personal computers.

BISim has also been contracted to develop a wide range of Swedish requirements including revolutionary new technology for procedural generation of snow layers in VBS2, for more realistic winter environments. Snow layering will also have more detailed and greater effects on soldier and vehicle movements. Many new Swedish specific vehicle and soldier models will be developed, including simulation of protective clothing and equipment. An overhaul of the VBS2 command and control system is also contracted.

Victoria Karlsson, Project Manager Training Systems at FMV, said “We have recently started the VBS2 development work for the Swedish requirements and will accomplish it in close collaboration with the SwAF.”

Peter Morrison, CEO of BISim, said “The Swedes are now able to fully exploit VBS2 and related products through this perpetual licensing agreement, and we look forward to supporting them for years to come. VBS2 is an affordable yet highly capable alternative to traditional military simulation, and Bohemia is extremely pleased that Sweden has now fully embraced game-based technology.”
